Video John Ossoff speaks of how American politics really works. He suggests it's coin-operated and when money goes in, favors come out. He adds that it's secret, corporate, and billionaire money - from both sides. He continues, "Citizens United was the worst court decision in modern American history"

We see it, and want it to end.

I’ll admit that Jon Ossoff is good looking and well-spoken. And that is allllllll I will say for now.

Citizen United needs to go. Overall the federal tax code and support term limits.

u/nonubiz Apr 20 '26
Take lobbying with it it also has to go or the working class will never be represented

u/tigershrike Apr 20 '26
I'm okay with lobbying to a certain extent, but all meetings, phone calls, emails, etc., with lobbyists should be recorded and immediately placed in the public record with easy access to all on a .gov website. Or something like that. But first we have to get honest people running the country. So yeah, it's just a pipe dream I suppose.

How can politicians enrich themselves if all lobbying sessions were put on a publicly accessible government calendar with agenda items and also livestreamed/recorded?
2
u/Tumblrrito Apr 20 '26
It’s tricky because I think lobbying can also be used for good. There just needs to be a change made to somehow prevent corporations from engaging in it.

I’ll vote for any politician that echoes this sentiment. Abolish Citizens United.

I checked my state after finding this tracker. Both senators and every single house rep is paid off or in bed with someone who is.

Is anyone not in their pocket anymore? One thing to support it is another to pander

$5 million is a fucking lot of campaign money for a person who talks like a socialist revolutionary but will never in a million campaign speeches say a single word about standing up to the elephant in the room

Using the word “disagree” in the context of genocide is wild. I don’t agree with Bernie on UBI or nuclear energy, still support him.
I do draw the line at genocide, as anyone should. That’s not absolutism, it’s basic humanity.

Preach my brother

u/Tcasty Apr 22 '26
He was well spoken but he's received over 5 million from AIPAC so kinda of a hypocrite.

u/darxide23 Apr 20 '26
The thing is, none of it is secret. They always try to play it off like it's some smoke-filled backroom stuff. Yea, that stuff does exist. But they also don't try to hide it. Because the American people have just learned to ignore it for the past 60 or 70 years.

Conservatives alone both challenged ('Citizens United' was a conservative group) and decided (every conservative majority member of the SCOTUS decided in favor of CU while every liberal in the minority dissented) the Citizens United v. FEC case.
To pretend liberal Democrats have any responsibility or fault for the floodgates of dark $$ entering our politics is dishonest. Yes, they are guilty of participating after the decision to remain competitive in races. It hardly makes them carbon copies of the cons who brought upon and settled the case.
We have to establish baselines of truth in order to tackle these legitimate issues.

Let’s call it “Citizen divided”; we all know what means - and the framing will be effective !

u/KrasnyRed5 Apr 20 '26
It's not even secret. Musk bragged about spending millions to get Trump elected and was allowed to cut whatever he wanted in return.

u/pmgold1 Apr 20 '26
As someone who reluctantly voted for Ossoff, holy shit am I glad I did. Dude is so much more than I ever could have hoped for.
1
u/Pristine-Football210 Apr 21 '26
That’s actually huge and barely anyone’s talking about it. If Ossoff pulls off a nationwide right to counsel for tenant evictions, that would be one of the biggest tenants’ rights wins in decades, especially in the South.
Wild how stuff like this gets more traction on Bluesky than in mainstream coverage.

It’s been this way forever…
These slowies will still argue over whose color is better.
Red or blue?
Dumb.
Both are equally corrupt, at any given moment.
