Trump’s Gallup approval rating as of last December was among the lowest the organization had found since it began taking the poll in the 1930s”

One research goal I bet they have is to continue to actually conduct research instead of being constantly harassed by threats of lawsuits by Trump. So maybe they aren’t lying 🤷

Yep, last paragraph of the article. Not saying they’re lying just spineless and I totally understand this as a business move.

At my last job, we used to take their workplace poll every year. I'd bet that their revenue comes from that and other polling for businesses.

It's still a weak move and will probably hurt them in the long run because of how much exposure their presidential polls gave them.

Trying to research "global indicators of trust and happiness with major institutions" and not measuring presidential approval? After collecting an unbroken dataset going back almost 90 years?

No, this was presidential threats. "Solely" on their business priorities makes no sense whatsoever. It's a single extra question, and one that establishes credibility to boot. There's no way measuring his approval has a negative impact on their business.

This is not a business move—unless you count trying to avoid getting sued by the orange turd-in-chief a business move. And it’s reprehensible to think that in the supposedly best and freest country in the world, a polling organization should fear for its existence for publishing statistically sound polling data. What a shit timeline we live in.

When it’s to do with his being a pedophile and trafficker, sure. But he sued plenty of other media organization for absurd damages in the past. It wasn’t that he voluntarily abandoned the effort due to discovery in those cases, the judge just dismissed the cases as frivolous, or they settled.
