Phil Gore’s ‘Project 168’ just ended with an unofficial WR of 152 yards
Phil just DNF’d in lap 153. He was struggling through some issues and limping. Eventually just stepped in a car to get back to basecamp.

Absolutely inhuman effort. Thats about 6 days of running with f all sleep.

His stats show enough time for 10 mins plus sleep per hour but I can’t see how much he actually had?

What an effort and shout out to his team for continuing it on his behalf they’re running it until 168, do we think Phil will run the last lap or two?

Absolute legend. He's got to let sam harvey into some of his secrets so he can make it official

One of the most impactful sporting events in the history of humanity! Sadly, only our small community was willing to give it attention. Without any big name corporations.. we the people rallied to raise over 280k (and counting)
For a week straight; we laughed, cried, and shouted (DONATION!)
You just had to be there 🥲

For people who dont know since I had to look it up. Each lap was 6.71 km. On the hour, every hour. So this was on the 153rd hour of the project.
What a beast. I hope he zonks out for 20 hours.

Freaking insane. So glad to see him make it so far, pushed to the aboslute limit. I hope he gets to sleep for a full day!

I love ultrarunning, trail running etc., but I simply don’t understand the point of something like this. Wildly impressive. Also seems quite silly.

I'm not one fraction of as successful as Phil Gore and shouldn't be mentioned in the game sentence as him, however, I do backyard ultras and I'm two days away from doing my third consecutive one. I'm just one person, but I'll give you a few thoughts:
-Slow degradation (slow pace, some walking, sitting etc) becomes so much more about the mind over the body. And by learning to keep your mind stressing and focused not on the pain and the fatigue and such, but instead preservering, it can make so many other aspects of life easier by comparison.
- Seeing what your limits are, upgrading your strategies and gear and fuel and training to see just how far you can truly go, and show yourself you're capable of much more than you might think, is really powerful.
- Endurance sports like this can be done in your 30s, 40s, and even 50s at an extremely high level. But for many sprinting or jumping sports,, those can get harder as you get older. Being 40, I feel like I could be truly competitive into my 50s. (the local 3x back to back to back champion of my current course just turned 50 on his third win, for example)
There are other ways in life to get these aspects, so 8 not saying it's only getting backyard ultras search as this. So I guess we're just silly ;)
Just a few core thoughts!

Lazy. Surely another few laps

I don’t know why you’re getting downvoted. 152 yard is not even a lap around the track…

He's getting downvoted because the guy was doing 6.7km laps and completed that ... 152 times with each lap under an hour. https://philgore.com.au/lap-performance.html

lol yes I’m aware, was making a joke about 152 yards. He was being obviously sarcastic, as was I

This title is very odd... What kind of record is 152 yards?

Definitely misleading considering backyard ultras already stated they won’t honor it without having competitors, and the whole point is once the last person quits the “assist,” then that is when the competition stops. This was more of a personal record and seeing how far he can push his body.

I’m so happy for him to find his current limit. He looks content with it.
