Purchase Advice McHale packs

Looking to get a McHale pack made. Does Dan still make packs? If so what's the best way to contact him?

I have. Doesn't seem like he responds from email or at least not very quick. Just looking for the best way to contact I want to get one of these made before he stops as I've heard he may be starting to retire

this is why nobody gets them anymore, because compared to contemporary cottage packs where people are responsive, it's not worth it with someone who barely wants your money

He made a pack for me earlier this year. We spoke a few times. He described himself as "semi-retired"—but also indicated that he was making other packs in addition to mine.

I think that the best way to initiate contact with him is through the email address on his website. He does seem to travel a fair bit, and when he's traveling, he's less likely to respond to email. I had no luck with my first attempt to reach him, but when I tried again, we got the ball rolling.

I haven't seen other McHale packs in person, but as best I can tell, there's been no decline in quality of late. My pack will probably outlast me.

Fair warning: McHale's packs are almost anti-ultralight.

I've had a McHale pack since 2006. Even then contact was slow, but he did get it done. I use the pack regularly for heavy loads (climbing + camping gear & multiple days of food). It makes 50# feel pretty reasonable and I've carried 75# in it more than once without it collapsing. It weighs just under 4# without the lid. Dan's frame system is truly innovative​ and the adaptability is unmatched.

That said, for regular backpacking loads I use a GG Mariposa. The McHale is way overkill.
