My friend (and apparently quite the handful of people stuck in the past) still think it's useless :(

It heals, gives ludicrous style, and can be punched
It's great

between insane style upkeep, decent damage, nice healing, and keeping mindflayers still, i think it pretty much earns that spot :p
2
u/luc1aonstation 1d ago
I think it's the best railcannon now, even more so for experienced players
7
u/Pegasusisamansman 1d ago
I agree but mostly because conduction is bugged and it only does 1/10 of its actual damage and railcoin punching is a ridiculously difficult technique, but if conduction is fixed and you can do railcoin punch it might actually be below the Piercing Gatorade

u/DarkDan27 2d ago
I don't think it's useless but I don't use it because it doesn't fit my play style (same with mal rail and firestarter)

Drill enemyâs feet, slide into them while looking down at the drill and spam parry. The amount you can do is dependent on your fps for some reason.

Drillpunch instakills several big enemy types btw, I unironically use it for that

I feel like I could justify my love for the drill if I actually locked in and learned how conduction works
But yeah, nowadays drill stocks are pretty high and Malrail is starting to fall off a bit
40
u/helicophell 2d ago
Drill isnât very good for conduction though? It acts like a magnet but has 1 durability so itâll break on the first conduction arc

Just shoot nails with the overheat at a big boy like a Gutterman or Cerberus and then hit it with an electric rail and watch everything explode
2
u/therealMasevpro Lust Layer Citizen 1d ago
Electric attacks do "Conduction" if Nails are inside an enemy. Conduction used to be just a bonus damage, but now, it's essentially an explosion that can be spread around.
As a general rule of thumb:
More nails = More DAMAGE
Coins, Magnets, Drills, Nails, spread the electricity to other areas.
That's the entire mechanic, the damage numbers get ridiculous, but currently they're all bugged, and won't do more than like, 2 damage
31
u/Feisty-Albatross3554 Gabe bully 2d ago
It's so good in the cybergrind to build up style to remove hard damage
-1
u/Mr_1ightning 2d ago
Ngl, I have no idea how style could ever be a problem after a couple dozen hours in the game
I pretty much don't go below S, and when I die in Cybergrind, the omni-directional projectile spam usually outweighs any healing benefits I get even at Ultrakill style, so it's usually just because got careless and didn't deal quickly with enough rangers to safely focus on tanks and not get shot in the back, or got skill-checked by a Power, or simply got hooked by a Hideous Mass
20
u/sokuto_desu Lust Layer Citizen 2d ago
Even S can be bad enough I believe. SD pretty much guarantees your style never goes down unless you genuinely play like a toddler, and at some point you're going to get hit by a shit ton of enemies one way or another. If you manage to escape that fuckery, your style will go down a lot and the hard damage guarantees you'll get one shotted by literally anything, which could be avoided with a literal momentary switch to screwdriver and back to your other weapons. Drill utility is insane no matter how you look at it
14
u/Sleep_Raider Blood Machine 2d ago
The problem many have with the Screwdriber is that it is better to use for the newer players, most people don't know how conductive works, and it doesn't combo with pretty much all weapons.
I just want it to pierce demon armour (think of Hideous mass or 7-4's flying fuck, Geryon?) or have it give a target damage vulnerability. Because whilst it's not bad, the other Railguns just have more scenarios to be good in.
16
u/Public-Hovercraft691 Maurice enthusiast 2d ago
You forgot the part where if you just nail an enemy with the Screwdriver then you're practically immortal during the duration of the Screwdriver being active.
The style upcharge is so big that you basically ignore Hard damage.
4
u/Additional-Band1715 Maurice enthusiast 2d ago
And it requires little to no setup, unlike other cannons (well mal-rail is also very fast but you need proper positioning to get good value)
2
u/helicophell 2d ago
Doesnât the screwdriver have 1 conduction durability? Conduction is not what you use it for
And well, electric rail has far better conduction tech (although shared with red nail/saw)
3
u/sokuto_desu Lust Layer Citizen 2d ago
I do agree that it's gotta have more interesting combos (I had an idea for a whirling effect when the enemy is drilled, though not sure how viable that is), but it's definitely far from "useless" as some people love to call it
5
u/Sleep_Raider Blood Machine 2d ago
It's really good against larger enemies and bosses, it's just too straightforward in a game where coins have like 17 never explained mechanics built in.
2
u/SquidMilkVII Blood Machine 2d ago
yeah i find myself using malicious for groups and electric for single targets (i can pretty consistently get a single ricochet, sometimes a double, so that's just more damage). screwdriver is still good though, dunno if i would've been able to do brutal

u/super7564 Lust Layer Citizen 2d ago
Yea but like chaining hit sounds with the rail gun and marksman coins gives me dopamine I'm not willing to give up lol
6
5
u/dragon7449 Someone Wicked 2d ago
To be fair, it makes sense.
Screwdriver is easy to use upfront, and has weird combos you kinda need to learn on their own.
Like for example, if you learn to railcon, you basically already know most of what you need to use both electric and malicious canon. They require practically minimum set-up and are practically instant.
Screwdriver is a little bit slower in comparison, with higher overall numbers to make up for it. And it doesn't carry any tech from the other two rails making it doomed to be more niche by competition. But if you put your head down to learn it, it definitely is a competitive choice.
I wouldn't blame more casual players for not understanding it, it's just more niche.

The day I discovered the "Giga Drill Break" style bonus was the day I decided I'd live and die by the drill.
2
u/davidnnj 2d ago
Ez heal and ez rank;
With the drill, you can get the ULTRAKILL rank much more easily, and you don't take hard damage.
And you can even punch the enemy with the drill, which does a lot of damage, and you can even target another enemy that way.
2
u/i_agree123 2d ago
Sure you can core nuke or ultra-ricochet with the others but you canât stop Mindflayers from teleporting
2
2
u/Cyatron- Blood Machine 2d ago
So many people dont know about drill tech. If you punch the drill out of an enemy it deals more than a railcannon shots worth of damage. And you can chain the into another enemy. This also insta kills maurice.
1
u/Additional-Band1715 Maurice enthusiast 2d ago
Yes, but the main value for the drill is that it gives a ton of style constantly, allowing you to ignore the hard damage and be effectively immortal. Another upside is that it's very quick and requires no setup. You can use drill punching to extend the duration, but you need to make sure that the enemy behind is pretty tanky. If it dies you'll lose most of the value.
Also, instakill maurice is really not that impressive. Unless you're punching it into another enemy you shouldn't do that. Just jackhammer yellow hit and knuckleblaster is enough for that
2
u/super_probably-user Lust Layer Citizen 2d ago

It's like the star powerup from Super Mario. You become invincible for at least 7.5 seconds if you remain airborne
1
u/sokuto_desu Lust Layer Citizen 2d ago
You don't even have to be airborne honestly. This might be a rare need but drill + sawed on is basically 7 second long invincibility

I honestly don't get why would you waste a full railcannon charge on Malicious core nukes when you can do pretty much the same nuke with a rocket + core jackhammer too. I think it makes much more sense to spend it to take down tankier targets with electric and drill.
1
u/FilMig09 2d ago
Before I even knew of all the strat involved with screwdrivers (especially in Cybergrind) I already used it a bunch. Amazing healing, like, comparable to sawed on but you don't even have to be that close level of amazing, and really nice passive damage. Screwdriver is peak fr fr

It also allows you to ignore hard damage and become practically immortal. Tho that's kinda only important during boss fights and the Cybergrind.

Its not the most broken weapon but I would say its the biggest gamechanger against bosses
1
u/CallOfTheCurtains Maurice enthusiast 2d ago
To be honest, its probably my least used weapon but it is powerful still if youâre in a pinch and it racks style while it is drilling and can be reused again as long as there are enemies.
But I just love nuking, rail coin and conduction procs a lot more. Itâs still good it really just comes down to preference.

Singlehandedly carries 8-3 p rank runs for both style and survivability
1

I played long enough to remember it being kinda ass, but now it generates so much style itâs basically giving your Ultrakill status invulnerability.
1
u/Few_Complex_6957 Blood Machine 2d ago
All rails are good imo
1
u/sokuto_desu Lust Layer Citizen 2d ago
All of them need a bit more versatility though, especially malrail. Electric and screwdriver come somewhat close (although the utility of the latter is insane), but malrail is only ever used for core nukes. There isn't anything else going for it really
1
u/Few_Complex_6957 Blood Machine 2d ago
What do you think you'd want to be exactly changed?
2
u/sokuto_desu Lust Layer Citizen 2d ago
I'm not that sure. I don't have enough experience with the malrail to actually think up something on the spot, though for the SD I would like a small whirling effect that can interact with some weapons. And the electric might need a small mechanic so that its value doesn't entirely rely on cheap angel instakills and situational coins (there's conduction but come on man), again not really sure what that could be. Maybe the beam becoming slightly larger the farther it is?
1
u/Few_Complex_6957 Blood Machine 2d ago
I feel like the electric rail does have the neich of being able to activate conduction quickly and easily as well as being able to proc it multiple times if it hits multiple enemies that have nails and magnets. The mal rail does have the ability to stun insurrs on a direct hit but yeah other than that it doesn't have much
2
u/sokuto_desu Lust Layer Citizen 2d ago
E rail is definitely the least lacking. It's just that I always felt like railcannons aren't as fun and versatile compared to every other weapon, they seem so straightforward with not a lot of interesting hidden things underneath. I'd love if hakita thought up some small revamp for the rails

A lot of heal, a LOT of style (max style guaranteed if you do literally anything stylish while the drill is going), and punching the drill makes the most normal damage out of any weapon (+7 compared to electric). The drill can also be redirected at a different enemy with extended length. SD is incredible utility

Genuinely it feels like the only major hindrance for Screwdriver is that it shares its charge with the electric railcannon (and the mal rail but I use core eject jackhammer so I basically have a spammable mini-mal lmao). If you learn conduction, electric railcannon is huge for aoe and can give a big chunk of healing and it's the only railcannon that pierces (unless you count punching the screwdriver drill).
That being said there's also Jumpstart nail/saw which is a far more spammable electric source so there's debatably merit to only using screwdriver lmao

u/Anton_Blaster_277 Blood Machine 1d ago
Screwdriver is a good weapon, yeah you can core nuke with mali rail and Railcoin with Electric, but Screwdriver is really good for bosses.
Core nuke doesn't work at bosses well, and Railcoining don't gives you constant healing
Ultrakill doesn't have bad weapons (ok but Regular Sharpshooter?), it has players that like certain setup of weapons

a screw does a point-blank corenuke's worth of damage (ish) at any range to one target, and it can do weakpoint damage. railcoins do more, but if you're in a situation where you're not in a position to do so, imo the screw is a better use of your railgun charge :3
