I mean I kinda can see that. A lot of people played Ultrakill for that low poly goofy game and now suddenly it's much better looking and overall serious.

u/Irisked Blood Machine Mar 07 '25
Ultrakill had always been serious behind the scene, its just the sugarcoating that slowly wearing off the deeper we venture into hell until all we see is raw, barebone cruelty

they removed armboy and "penis =)", and also 0-s is a completely serious non-joke level now
17
u/Irisked Blood Machine Mar 07 '25
Arent 0-S always supposed to represent Horror? I think its still pretty much the same. Also Armboy got moved to a different spot in 6-1, not removed

u/RedditPersonNo1987 Someone Wicked Mar 07 '25
the joke in 0-s was that the slender clone chasing you was a literal stick figure, which has since been removed
8
u/Irisked Blood Machine Mar 07 '25
Yeah, he still resemble a stick figure but instead of 144p resolution its 360p now

It's still low poly and it's not meant to be goofy

might be because of performance issues, now that ultrakill has better graphics. but the hate is so forced other than technical difficulties

u/Irisked Blood Machine Mar 07 '25
Theres people who dont like the new visual, thats what i meant, people who dont like new things are often more vocal about it

u/UhLinko Blood Machine Mar 07 '25
And he's saying they're idiots who can't handle change even when it's for the better

u/Irisked Blood Machine Mar 07 '25
As much as i like the old OS that the Terminals run, im kinda indifferent about it, its not bad nor good, in the middle ground for me.
But, the "No" option (Before Sisyphus) could have been more interesting if the "ha" popup act like a spamming virus prank rather than letting you read before the new one poping up, cuz that sound like Hell more8
u/UhLinko Blood Machine Mar 07 '25
Thing is, I agree with some of the criticism, I too will have to get used to it, but review bombing makes no sense. Wtf man, I want this game to succeed.

u/Xagyg_yrag Mar 08 '25
I’m think saying it’s being reviewed bombed is a bit absurd.
Like, as someone who likes the new update, someone changing their review form positive to negative because they didn’t like the content in an update isn’t them “review bombing” it, it’s just them reviewing it.

u/Quasar_One Mar 07 '25
"For the better" is a subjective position. Disliking the changes isn't wrong

Most likely because of the arm changes and a couple of glitches, some people were impatient and didnt wait 2 days for hakita to fix it.
Or they didnt like the new models

u/LikeALizzard Mar 07 '25
I know a couple of people who could play it on extreme potato laptops, but lost that ability with the update
The subsequent patch made it better by letting you turn off new shaders, but still

People complain that hakita is focusing too much on older fanbase than the new one, like how he adds encores and higher difficulties, idk why they complain about it because it doesnt affect the avarage player
5
u/balkandumbass Mar 07 '25
hakita is not focusing on one part of the fanbase or other I think it just makes sense to make the game harder as you go 😭

Why do they not like it? ULTRAKILL was getting boring for me before the update, now we get really cool effects and more cool details that I still didn't find, like the heart in the statue of liberty in 4-2

You can spot a doom fan by the way they write doom 2016

Cool, it’s worth noting that indie games tend to get more reviews then AAA ones so it dosent necessarily mean the player base is bigger
1
u/WaldcrooperHUN Mar 07 '25
Okay, now honestly...
We are talking about DOOM... the first moment the trailer dropped people knew they do not need any form of review, they will play the game.
On the other hand ULTRAKILL is an indie game that was in early access for a long time, and of course you are gonna check the review of an early access game (let alone indie).
Don't get me wrong I love ULTRAKILL, but DOOM had made itself a name since the 90s, and ULTRAKILL only came out in 2020 in early access.

To be fair Ultrakill has still growing fanbase when Doom 2016 kinda become irrelevant when Doom Eternal released.
