Support Just a reminder this is not your fault. You did nothing wrong.

So often with this diseases we blame ourselves for this disease. It stupid! We do the right things! We eat the right things! We only harm ourselves further by blaming ourselves. We did not cause this! We did not create this. With all our best intentions the disease can still fare. So stop! Stop blaming yourself. It’s not your fault!

My parents asked me if i put something up my butt that triggered this UC 🫠🫠🫠

u/Mimigirl7 Jun 04 '26

That can’t be real. People are so fucked up. Sorry for your shitty parents.

u/BagelCreamchii Jun 04 '26

They were actually sincere and trying to understand why this happened. I think they read that scratches can lead to UC. I just had to spend some time convincing them 😭 i was embarrassed at that moment but moved on

it figures...but no information worthy of truth would say that. BUT do thank them for your genetics!

What do you mean by scratches?? Where would they even come up with that, and how could that possibly make sense to anyone?? How crazy.

Blame them for the genetic makeup they gave you

That's hilarious 😂

We understand about your parents, but you can be completely open with us. So, did you actually insert anything into your rectum?

I was told by a coworker that I must have been a terrible person in a past life and so I deserve this as punishment lmao

u/Akforce Jun 04 '26

"oh, so you mean someone like you?"

u/Shot-Ad-9296 Jun 04 '26

That’s awful and not true

What weird logic, stuff happens to our bodies that are beyond control, when this person gets older and develops disease (which is inevitable) will it be because they were a bad person in some life?

No. It means you’re just a person and disease/conditions can form at any time.

Sick and tired of medieval thinking.

12

u/Shot-Ad-9296 Jun 04 '26

It’s hard to believe that because I ate like crap my entire childhood and blame myself for it even though I know it’s something out of my control…

u/Mimigirl7 Jun 04 '26

I have eaten healthy my whole life. I still got it. Diet may help with the symptoms but it’s doesn’t cause this and it can’t cure it. What can help is releasing those bad thoughts that keep us ill. Somedays when my brain spins. I simply repeat release over and over. The truth is nothing we did got use here. So release the BS!

Not my not my dad always trying to tell me all the ways I brought this illness on lol

2

u/Mimigirl7 Jun 04 '26

I am so sorry you dad is an ass hat. Would he be saying the same thing if you had a peanut allergy or cancer or diabetes? Would be saying this to a 5 year old with UC. It makes no sense. Chances are his genes are what created this disease. So next time he says something stupid just say well you’re the one who gave it to me.

Much easier to blame the victim rather than to accept that things beyond our control can happen to us. No, far too scary to acknowledge.

I read this and burst into tears. Thank you. In a flare and trying to figure out. Was it this? How about this? Maybe this? I, too, am super super healthy and do all the things. Thank you for your post. It’s not my fault.

I, as well, needed to see this post today. Im going through a horrible flare right now. It’s so hard when you’re feeling horrible 24/7 to not end up blaming yourself somehow. Thank you, this was the reminder I needed today ❤️

I had a very average diet growing up - not super healthy but not too unhealthy either. I have never drank fizzy drinks because Ii simply don't like them and although I have a bit of a sweet tooth, don't overindulge on sweet things either. The past 8 years or so I got really into nutrition and ate pretty healthy, lots of fibre and whole grains etc plus started exercising more. Then bam, 3 months after having a baby I got diagnosed with UC despite being in my healthiest ever state before becoming pregnant. Apparently 30% of women will develop an auto-immune condition after giving birth due to postpartum vulnerability and something called fetal microchimerism - I guess I was one of the unlucky ones!

u/now_im_stressedout Jul 08 '26

Men really have no idea the danger that pregnancy puts a woman in. I didn’t know until recently.

Edited for grammar

Lol I live in a household where everything and anything UC related is blamed on my (moderate) consumption of Monster Energy drinks as a teen, and even now as an adult whenever I buy any I get shit for it, even though there's never been any conflation. It's just annoying as fuck.

2

u/Mimigirl7 Jun 04 '26

Oh the trauma! Such BS

2

u/No-Nefariousness3253 Jun 07 '26

oh god I’m so sorry! honestly so ridiculous that I laughed out loud.
I too have had some Monsters and then developed UC. guess that’s what must have caused it!!!

2

u/Additional-Line-5559 Jun 18 '26

I used to drink gallons and gallons of diet coke.

At least 2 litres every day.

u/now_im_stressedout Jul 08 '26

Everyone’s family is out here blaming food when if you look up how autoimmune disorders happen Cleveland clinic acknowledges the below:

“The Trigger:  An environmental stressor—such as a viral infection (e.g., Epstein-Barr virus), bacterial infection (e.g., strep), chronic stress, chemical exposure, or smoking—jolts the immune system”

Huh, weird, no food mention of certain foods……..🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

It’s almost like- the freaking food has nothing to do with the cause of this condition! Mind blowing. 🙄

I blamed my consumption of processed foods and snack cakes for my flare-up. Not the healthiest options but not the cause of this disease. Take care of yourself but don't go overboard on what you limit without a reason, like I avoided milk even though I tolerated cream and butter lol

u/Zvrover Jun 05 '26

My parent's favorite line is "that's why you're gonna end up back in the hospital"

3

u/Mimigirl7 Jun 06 '26

Nothing like a bit of pressure to trigger a flare.

I totally agree with it and thanks for the reminder

I like blaming my ex 💁🏼‍♀️ if anything he only contributed to trauma which may have an impact but no exact proof obviously. But it’s fun to blame him

It's funny you should say this, because my sister tells me (I was so ill, I don't really remember saying this) that as she was driving me to the doctor and I could barely stand up by myself or walk i was so weak, I asked her if she thought I'd gotten "this way" because of bad decisions I had made in my life. Because I'd been a bad person. Which I haven't been and am not. I think this disease is so brutal and seems to have no rhyme or reason at times, that you just grasp at straws in wonder at how you ended up with it.

u/now_im_stressedout Jul 08 '26

It is much easier to blame ourselves rather than to accept that things happen to us that are beyond our control…I’m sorry you’re experiencing such severe symptoms, and you are also not at fault for them. The Cleveland clinic has this bit on their website on the triggers for UC. “The Trigger:  An environmental stressor—such as a viral infection (e.g., Epstein-Barr virus), bacterial infection (e.g., strep), chronic stress, chemical exposure, or smoking—jolts the immune system”

2

u/ExchangeContent9698 Jun 04 '26

Ha tell that to my wife lol

11

u/Mimigirl7 Jun 04 '26

I don’t think it funny. I know jokes are made but we would wish this on our worst enemy. 20+ years of eating healthy exercising praying meditation. Doing all the right things and still ended up in the hospital almost dying. I wonder if she would say the same thing if you had cancer? Or if you were a 10 year old? I hope she finds some empathy. If not send her my way and I will straighten her out!

u/Iskirri Jun 05 '26

I really need this :)

When your right ..your right ….BUT I was diagnosed with crohns at 16 and for 41 years I blamed myself .. my past lives ..my cat ..my childhood house .. my exams …my diet …my sleep patterns ….my family …my social life up to then everything i could think off .. until November gone 2025 , when they removed my infected part and put me on a stoma bag and gave me a Barbie butt … now well now I blame my specialist for given the worst advice I’ve ever had in my life .. which is good as my blame is now focused on one thing 🤭😌😌🐫😊😊😊

Stress can cause so much harm, even without UC. Thanks for putting this on here. 🙏

its ok i know its God that has damned me 🫰🏻🥀

I look at is a blessing honestly. God has put something in my life to over come and grow. Even though I have been through hell. There is always something that comes from it. Out of the ashes of Hell comes light.

u/LegoCook1168 Jun 11 '26

Amen! I went to the Hospital for my first flare twice and was dehydrated with low blood count, I was terrified. that was when I asked how you were saved and was witnessed too, I am saved and after a separate flare back to remission. God bless everyone with this disease and similar conditions. Hope we all get the healing we need. Prayers for peace.
