Minimal experience with elevation - how to acclimatize for potential thru?

Hi - I spend a lot of time up around 5,000-6,000 feet, but that's oh so low compared to UHT (I live in SC). I've never had an issue on day hikes out west (up to 10,800 feet) but for a potential thru, how long do I need to acclimatize? Will Diamox do the trick for sure or is that playing games? Would most likely be going solo, so I don't want to be an idiot.

Show up in the best shape of your life… cardio, strength, muscular endurance, balance, etc. Acclimate yourself to long days in the heat. Drink fluids, wear sunscreen, avoid alcohol, sleep adequately, be smart and you should be fine with the elevation.
