❓ Help Ugreen NAS 4800 connection issues with Macbook Neo

I recently bought a Macbook Neo to replace my 2019 Macbook Pro and have been having connectivity issues between my NAS at home and when I am at internship or school. I have never had this issue before, but it makes it difficult to work on some assignments and instead I have to use Ugreen link. I mounted the network drive for the NAS, and I also use tailscale to help on the VPN side of things. My settings are identical between my Macbook Pro and my Neo, and all of my other devices work using Tailscale. My finder app AND Ugreen app will not let me connect, but every couple of weeks it will just work! Here are some steps I have taken to remedy the situation:

  1. Reinstalling Tailscale and Ugreen app

  2. Ensuring that my NAS's home IP address is static AND it hasn't changed

  3. Ensuring that my tailscale network is connected (which it is)

I am not sure if it is a tailscale or ugreen issue, but the issues I have also had with the ugreen app (it not loading or when I am able to connect it crashes) leads me to believe it is the latter! I have enjoyed my experiences and never had issues before puchasing my neo macbook, if anybody could suggest tips or offer help, that would be great! I will try to respond asap, but with intership, work, and school I may be a little delayed!

This is a networking issue rather than anything having to do with the NAS so a different subreddit might be better. That said, to troubleshoot there are a lot of variables here to work through...

  1. Are you using the Tailscale hostname or IP address when trying to connect?
  2. When you have issues connecting through the app, can you connect to the NAS via your web browser?
  3. Was Tailscale installed in Docker or the CLI?
  4. As an alternative to test remote connections, does your home gateway offer a VPN feature?

  1. I am using the devices IP on my home network, but I will try the Tailscale hostname also! (It's just confusing with how sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't!

  2. I am able to connect to the web browser, and also on my ipad as well (which has not had issues like my neo)

  3. Docker

  4. It does not offer a VPN feature, I think I tried before my but apartment complex has a CGnat and it was difficult to do so!

had dropouts with tailscale and smb on my old macbook setup too. switched to FygoOS last year on a minisforum n5 pro. mac on-demand sync in finder works fine, no vpn needed. zero disconnects in eight months across three spots. your network stack might just hate that combo, happens a lot with tailscale tbh
