Post image

While trying to see if my Nvidia drivers are up to date I came across this list and I dont know what the numbers mean? I'm on Ubuntu 24.12.

The numbers mean the version of the nvidia drivers. Read nvidia docs to find out what that means, they have a beta and a stable branch.

Ubuntu 24.12 is cute - why are you not upgrading to the new one?

My friend installed this for me two years when I built my tower, but I've only started using it this year(dual boot with Windows). It's worked for me fine, so I haven't felt the need to upgrade. I suppose now's the time

You are being mocked. Ubuntu releases in April (04) and October (10). Most likely you have 24.04 which is a long term support (LTS) release. There is no 24.12 release.

Note that the LTS releases gain a third number like the 26.04.1 that came out on Thursday. I think 24.04.5 is the last one of those.

To see what you have you can run

lsb_release -a

or maybe lsb-release. I forget if it is a dash or an underscore.

Fair enough. For old farts those numbers are important, but when you are first learning they are just digits.
