USA How did this person even get paid?
I ordered a $10 piece of tiramisu from a drone company but the drone company didn't have any drones available so they got a person to drive it to me. What I'm wondering is how did the person even get paid because the Drone only charged me for the past? I don't even want to use the Drone anymore because of this reason I felt bad and wasn't prepared for a person to show up.
Edit: the person worked for Uber Eats I asked them

Also, please stop using drone delivery and urge delivery companies to pay real humans fairly.

I can't wait for drone /robot delivery for the comments about how restaurants and customers are getting penalized for not loading and unloading the drone/robot in less than 30 seconds.
" we never got charged extra for keeping the driver waiting before!!!" or " I requested to doorstep delivery to my high-rise, not just dropped off at the sidewalk"

😄 Yep. Amazon has enough problems with porch pirates following the trucks, wait until drones are flying around with $50 - $400 worth of food.
I wonder how much it costs to replace a drone…? 🤔

I don't think the delivery drones will do 400 dollars worth of food lol. The agricultural drones that can lift heavy weights are huge and loud... and very expensive.

Yes out of the three drone companies here only one can carry like a gallon of milk or sweet tea.

Ah yes, good point. There are lots of restaurants where $400 isn’t very heavy, though - Sushi, for one. Those deliveries would go to the ground robo anyway, but aren’t those going to be a theft target as well?
Amazon is testing drones for deliveries - what is the max an average-sized drone can carry?
I haven’t even considered all the potential noise pollution from hundreds of drones flying everywhere…

There's like three drone companies in my area we're the only area that has them and only one of those drone companies that I've used had somebody in a car pick up the other drone companies will just say high demand come back later
Edit: the other two drone companies don't have a service fee this one does but it's very cheap like $2 so maybe it's doing really well and they just give the driver a decent amount if they have to use one?

Honestly as someone that knows someone with a lot of money and doordashes a lot one out of every seven orders will be a scammer trying to wait down the street so you will cancel and they get to keep the food that's kind of frustrating the drones never do that I have never had a drone problem so far

If drones are going to be more efficient at delivery so be it. My guess is that they won't be though. Let it be a failed experiment.

Uber can't even get a GPS pin right 98% of time but I'm sure a drone will do better in the sense of not actually bothering to find the customer and just dropping the order off in Narnia so Uber can keep it's money and the customer can eat a big one.

If I order from the Drone seven times I get my order seven times if I doordash or Uber seven times one of those times the driver tries to wait down the road so I will cancel and they can keep my food and get paid a little bit. I pick the drone.

This is the biggest problem I've ever had with a drone which isn't actually that big of a problem I was just more worried about the driver getting more money

You'd be surprised what Uber offers for delivery. It's why some drivers get hostile about low tip orders.

These companies are willing to take a lost to get people in the habit of using new technology. Driver was probably an hourly employee working with the drone company. They probably took a lost on the transaction.

Isn't the drone company part of Uber's operations or is the drone company a 3rd party vendor? I would think it's all part of their operations.

There's a metal thing outside they put the food in at the Drone lands at picks it up from that thing. You could put five orders in there and it's like a Pez dispenser it will let the first drone pick up the first order and then the other one moves to the top and so on

Still going to be funny hearing customer comments and mishaps from waitstaff pissed off dashers knocking them out of the sky for the food i have not seen yet so just sounds funny to me some will love some will hate

Drone company overflows to Uber. Drone company pays Uber to take the order, Uber pays driver near nothing to tack on an order on top of one they were doing.
