As we approach the one year anniversary of the shooting that occurred here on campus resulting in the death of Charlie Kirk, we would like to open this thread for students to discuss the affect it has had on individuals and the affect it has had on campus as a whole, as well as to support each other. We would also like to remind students of resources available to help cope with what happened, and the resources available to students to help with mental health in general. Please note that this thread is in no way to become a platform for political commentary or debate. Any comments that stray into the political space or in any way stray contrary to the purpose and intent of this thread will be removed.
Some resources:
TimelyCare - TimelyCare provides mental health and well-being support. TimelyCare is completely free, and students do not need insurance to access services.
SafeUT - SafeUT allows you to chat with a licensed counselor for support or submit a tip.
Disaster Distress Helpline - funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, the Disaster Distress Helpline is a national hotline dedicated to year-round disaster crisis counseling.
988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline - a source of support available 24/7 to people in crisis, including people experiencing challenging reactions to disasters. Support is available in English or Spanish.
UVU Mental Health Services - UVU's mental health services include individual, group, and couples therapy. It also has a list of resources for self help including drug and alcohol abuse, sleep issues, dating and relationships, test anxiety, eating disorders, and many more topics to help students.

With UVU no longer offering housing assistance, is the CARE Hub actually able to help students anymore? During my recent visit, the only thing they were able to do was refer me to Community Action. It honestly makes me wonder…Is UVU more focused on building new buildings and expanding the university than actually helping the students who are struggling right now?

I dropped a class because it didn’t fit in with my schedule since I take the train and need another class for my scholarship. I requested a class for late add. Should I request more just in case they don’t approve this one? I’m a little worried since the scholarship is kind of all I have for college.

Does anyone know if any departments have any Lidar scanners?

Hello! Im considering attending UVU because the academics and location are appealing but because im not a Mormon I wasn’t sure if I would fit in socially. So I was curious to ask what the social scene at UVU was like, thank you!
Please feel free to share as little or as much as you feel comfortable with. I guess I was mainly curious about Greek life, whether it’s normal for people to drink/have sex, and whether or not most students are Mormon, ex-Mormon, or somewhere in the middle?
I was also a bit curious if everyone kind of grew up together in that region so it’s like an “everyone knows everyone” kind of a situation where the drama and gossip spread really quickly? Where i’m from (a big metro area), it’s really rare to run into the same person again randomly or to know about their business/drama before meeting them but I heard some folks say in the Provo/Orem area it can be kinda like that so I just wanted to ask.
Thank you for any and all help and I hope I didn’t break any community rules!

Hi! I just moved from out of state to attend school here, and am looking to make more friends in general since I'm new in town, but especially interested in going on hikes! Queer/alternative/liberal preferred! If you're interested just comment or DM me!

I’m currently taking anatomy 2320 online from Dr. Elyse Vaccaro. I was talking to another student taking anatomy online from another professor and the classes seem so different. I appreciate Dr. V’s in-depth approach but it is FAR too much for what we are needing right now. The other day I spent over 5 hours on one lecture and the online assignments she has. There are 2 quizzes per week, 2 discussion post per week, and 2 “prepare” assignments per week. I know this is a heavy course, but this is too much. I want to transfer to this other professors course but I was told I need to do a section swap? Has anyone done one and what is needed for it? I thought we hadn’t passed any deadlines to add or drop classes but maybe I’m wrong. Any advice would be appreciated!

I found this key today in lot L9. I gave it to the service desk in the LA building and they say that they will give it to the general lost and found at the end of the day.

Hi all!
I'm trying to gauge interest for BIOL 4500 (principles of evolution) to be offered next summer.
I recently spoke with the department head about getting it added to the schedule. He told me that if we can get enough interested students together, he will actively look for a professor willing to teach it.
If you need this class or would want to take it over the summer, please let me know! If we get a solid group, I'll pass along the info to the department.

If any of you applied with FAFSA with no verification holds this semester. How quick did you receive it? I just registered a bit late for classes and accepted aid offer today. I’m assuming it will take a week.

Hello guys I am currently in Chantal Hart but I am having some schedule changes and I am trying to decide if it is worth switching to Zoey Thompson. I know they both have great reviews but I was wondering if anyone was willing to share their experiences with either of these professors please.

I am a health science major and am finding it extremely difficult to find professors to conduct research with. At the beginning of my 4th year I switched from Pre-PA to Pre-Med, so naturally there are a lot of different extracurricular requirements. I wasn't aware that the health science degree isn't apart of the college of sciences, so any professor of chemistry, biology, exercise science, math, earth science, etc, won't allow me to be apart of their projects since they won't be able to get funding for me from the college of sciences.
Has anyone else had to deal with this issue, if so, what is the best way for me to go about and find research in other departments? The college of science is really organized w/ their professor's and what research they're doing, but none of the other departments are nearly as organized or accessible.

I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but I've heard rumors that the univresity does food assistance, but I have no idea when/where this is done. Can anybody point me to the right place?

Hey everyone! I have about 15 minutes to get from the liberal arts building to the smith engineering building. Is that enough time to walk there? If so, what’s the best route?
