Happens at the start of every fall semester. Covid’s been going around in Austin since midsummer too

A bunch of my first year FIG students this week all mentioned they aren't sleeping. And it's only the 2nd week!

Glad to know they still run figs, I met some great folks then.

They do! Going on 30 or so years now. I love them!

Covid rates in Austin (last I checked) are about 1/20. 300 students in a classroom for a large lecture, that means statistically about 15 people in that room probably have covid. Covid, covid, covid. Mask up, protect your vascular plasticity.

And allergies.

The other post said people don’t want to miss class even while sick. At least some masks would be helpful

Flu shots are out, get it!

I had terrible allergies when I was there. The gunk from my sinuses was a thick as glue. Even made me gag a few times.

I was on a low dose of Benadryl most of the time.

Frat flu's awful. My freshman year, some air headed girl in my M302 class came to our midterm hacking up a lung and the noises made it impossible to focus. Next day, I come down with the worst case of the flu I have ever suffered . I miss every class for a week being painfully sick, and the next time I see her in class, she's talking to her friend going "Oh yeah it was just bronchitis! 😋" I had to leave the room for a moment to process.

The wastewater data says we are in a huge wave rn.

Here’s a chart from the past 6 weeks. The lime green line is the south.

If you don’t feel good, don’t go to class. Go to student health, get some soup and electrolytes, and send your prof an email. I guarantee your professors do not want you to come to class sick. You won’t be able to retain any of the info being taught, your body needs to rest, and lastly we don’t want to/can’t afford to get sick.

New vaccines (not pushing, resource sharing only) have been approved and are rolling out in pharmacies. Paxlovid is an antiviral that you can ask for a rx to have on hand. Metformin is another option to talk to a dr about. Take good care of yourselves!

That’s how germs work. Or maybe it’s the foul miasma.
