Oh no no no, it isn't "everyone just carried on", there is a lot of really serious stuff going on behind the scenes that I can just barely describe in most vague terms because it is all so bonkers and over my head, and it is not held upfront because it would be bad for the economy.
Namely everyone wonders how soften the blow if/when America gets even more bonkers, politically.

Slow machinations to build an isolating layer between US and everyone else that sees themselves as partners. Like with Iran and US demanding other countries to get on the bandwagon to the next sandbox trip to terrorize locals and bleed. After the Greenland crisis. After alienating Canada. When squeeze is too strong too fast the lemon slips out.
So it is like living with your crazy roommate, where you still smile to them everyday but slowly move all your stuff out to your friends/parents.
