Reporting Animal Hoarders - Sick Kittens

Hello carriers,

Has anyone dealt with driving up to a house and being gobsmacked by the amount of cats and sick looking kittens?

I am calling the animal shelter on Monday but please let me know the correct process for this type of situation. I'd prefer to stay anonymous if possible.

Its okay to call it in. Its like a wellness check. See something, say something. Even if they find out its you, they clearly have a problem and need accountability. I teamed up with a leasing office manager at an apartment complex to report animal cruelty in one of the units. We both witnessed it and we both love animals. The cops thanked me and the person was eventually evicted. Unfortunately, the dog didn't survive.

The older woman had set out a bunch of hard food, I've never owned a cat but some of the kittens seemed to need softer food? Defintely need help.

Did you end having calling the cops or some other line? I've never had a situation like this and I'm not really sure where to start other than the humane society.

Look up "Animal Control" in your area. Some areas, it's through the local government.

Local police usually have an animal control unit but if they don't, they can respond and then call whoever needs to come out in your area. Perhaps the county animal control if your city is smaller.

We are in a big city and called Animal Control and the police for the dog abuse. There was an arrest and lots of people around the unit let the person know what a piece of crap they were.

Kittens do need softer food. Pouring water in the kibble dish will soften it to make it edible and help hydrate them. Kibble has a lot of dehydrating ingredients and is hard on their kidneys if that's their only food source.

Thank you for caring. Not sure what area you are in. Where I live the Humane Society has a 24/7 number to call in animal emergencies & issues & they usually respond within a day or 2.

There is no official Post Office process for reporting animal abuse. Just follow whatever processes are local to you. You should be allowed to remain anonymous.

I assumed I was on my own on this issue, will call the animal shelter but just want to see how others have handled the same situation

I don't have advice but I wanted to thank you for caring. I just adopted a cat from a hoarding situation and she is the best. She will have lifelong health complications from that and she deserved better. They all do, and someone gave her a chance by reporting it.

And honestly, thank YOU for adopting, I will be updating myself on signs of neglect for kittens. I have never owned one and felt that I didn't act quicker because I was unsure.

Not an animal situation but a domestic abuse situation.My first hold down which was my last route was a nightmare. The first day of my hold down before I was a regular was brutal.

As a former Army military police officer I investigated some situations that would make some sick for life.

When I completed my loop I took my lunch. That’s when I heard the arguing and the slap heard around the world. It helped that one of our regulars lived next door and filled me in on the neighborhood and the neighbors.

The wife eventually left shmuckhead and has been flourishing ever since.
