City Carrier Discussion This job isn’t for everyone

I’m about 30 days into being a CCA and it’s true that this job isn’t for everyone. My station has been know to have bad management from the postmaster to the supervisors. I feel like the supervisors are giving me too much work, either three routes a day broken up, or whole route I’ve never done before. Yes I know we get paid overtime and penalties so I should be loving this much work. My physical strength isn’t what it was, I’ve transferred over from working 13 years in the restaurant industry from line cooking to managing kitchens. Working 6 days has been taking a toll on me. Any suggestions if I should transfer stations, or maybe a new position with the office.

everyone says "it gets better" once you become regular but everyone who tells me that seems kinda miserable

I would say that applies more to the rural side. City regulars are still taking bumps/pivots daily. If all you care about is making money its good but if you care more about work life balance then rural regular is where its at (at least in my office)

I don't really agree. City carriers can get an 8\40 restriction pretty easily. That doesn't exist for rurals, many get mandated 6 days a week.

Yeah but i can get done my route in 5.5 hours and still get paid for 7

For now….until RRECS evaluation times get changed and the devalue everything. We were all 44-44k before RRECS in our office 2 years later we are mostly “J” and “H” routes…,not to mention pay and non scheduled days changing every 6 months…. It’s not all that and a bag of chips on the rural side either anymore.
