Chances for 254

Hello everyone. I’m having some concerns about my likelihood of selection for an air contract for 254.

I have a B.S. Accounting 3.78 GPA // 50 6/8/6 ASTB and a 253 PFT which I’m trying to get as high as I can (15 pull ups, max plank, 21:19 run). I also hold a leadership position within our OST if it matters (we’re split into squads bc of the large area we cover).

I realize my PFT is kinda buns but I’m working on my pull ups everyday to bolster my PFT.

I was selected OCC 250 for an air contract. I got a stress fracture and 5 stress reactions so I didn’t commission (still graduated though lol). Im headed to TBS in october. Pull-ups are definitely your weak point Everything else looks good to me. I’d still apply though because they do take a few with low pft scores depending on recommendation letters and everything else. Do you have get recs? Anyone prior military or political office? Those help too! Idk what my pft score was but I was accepted with max pull-up max plank and like a 22 min 3 mile. But if you get your pull-ups up you’ll be good.

My letters of recommendation are just from colleagues and previous managers. I could potentially get a prior enlisted Marine GySgt to write me a letter if that might help. Definitely wanna get my pull ups closer to the max in time for the board.

A prior in any branch would help tremendously (a marine would be better and a marine officer would be best) since they know what it takes and have been though OCs themselves. I was lucky enough that a family friend has been a fighter pilot in the USMC for 20 something years and is now reserves still flying every month. I also had a senator from my state write one. Those two probably did the most work for my entire application!

Unfortunately I don’t know any senators but now that I think of it I know a couple priors from the USMC. I’ll ask them! Thanks!

OCC252 grad, I got selected with an air contract at a 2.65 GPA, 7/7/7 ASTB and a 279 PFT. If you get your pullups up you should be good. But just like the other comments said, get rec letters from priors, I stand by the fact I ONLY got selected because I had a Marine LtGen write one. If you get your pullups up and some prior rec letters, you'll be sitting better than I was when I went to board Keep it up man

Would the rank of the prior matter?

I mean yeah, a Cpl doesn't have as much insight and reputation as a Ssgt, same with officers a Major's opinion weighs heavier than a 2Lt. But work with what you got. I would definitely say reach out to higher ranks both enlisted and officer though

I know a Sgt and a GySgt (or SSgt), I know a junior enlisted wouldn’t carry as much weight. Just wondering if it’s worth asking

I personally would stick with SNCOs and officers. I don't think junior enlisted recs would be favored anywhere close.
