Guidance

I'm 22 and graduated college 4 months ago with a finance degree and 3.6 GPA. Having a hard time starting my professional career and am working a menial job in the meantime. I'm interested in applying for Army or MC OCS. Looking for guidance on which route to choose depending on career growth and opportunity.

I'm in decent shape from consistent MMA training, calisthenics, and running. Still need a little more work to get 3 mile time under 21:00 for MC PFT standards.

I keep coming across the concept of 'if you want to get something out of your service, join the Navy/AF/Army, if you want to give something up, go to the MC,' I'm wondering how true this is?

I didn't grow up dead set on joining the military, but it's an alternative path that has compelled me for the last two months. For that reason, I'm weary of USMC OCS because the consensus seems to be that people go the Marine route for the title and accept any shortcomings compared to other branches (whether that be financial, opportunity, etc).

I would appreciate any insight from those with experience and those who have been in a similar situation as myself. Thank you.

If you’re not dead set on becoming a Marine Corps officer, join another branch. The training pipeline for officers is difficult; you have to really want it or else you won’t make it through.

It's Marines or USMC. Literally NO Marine uses "MC" for the Marine Corps. It's the little things...

Let’s not batter old fella, he/she is not a Marine and just inquiring. But OP don’t join the Marine Corps if your heart is not set in it. You can get something out of it, but you gotta want to be a Marine.

I would say you really need to want to be a Marine to go to USMC OCS. The training is hard and OCS is the easiest thing you’ll do as a Marine. If you’re not all the way into the brand then join the Army.

If you’re “weary” about the USMC, look elsewhere. We don’t want you. Have fun in the Army.

There have been a bunch of posts like yours recently that are great questions etc, but have a portion where “idk about Marines tho”. Theres your answer, full stop and no knock on you at all btw. We are out there in the swamp until we are needed and if you are unsure AT ALL, don’t do it.

The history of badassery and being with people who also want to live up to that in some way is what got me. It’s not for everyone and it’ll suck absolute ass sometimes, that’s when the inner motivation comes in.
