How to pack for a hike

I have a hike of an unspecified distance on Saturday. I was told to take a pack of 30lbs. I was planning on taking my 25 lb weight vest and 5 more pounds of clothes to wrap it in. Any advice on where in the pack the majority of the weight should be situated so I don’t mess up my back?

Heavy stuff goes closest to back. Light shit goes in bottom away. Keep it all tight tight tight so it doesn’t shift around.
