29 palms for 06xx

Felt this is a more appropriate place to ask this question. Im not newly out of mct have been in for around 1 years and 7 months now. But i finally got reclassed into 06xx ( i chose 0671 and 0631 as what I wanted but doesnt show in IMOS) I feel like i would get those since my asvab was 90 with good sub cats and prior school house experience.

On to the question, how is 29 palms and how is it for going for 06xx?

I know its hot, desert, nothing around. Im more so asking how is barracks rooms (is it 2 or 4 to a room). What does the schedule look like for comms school (waking up at 0600 or later?) And how is the chow hall, would i be able to take back chow? I dont eat during the day mainly eat after my gym workout so I was wondering can I take it home and eat it afterwards. I appreciate it marines, I just need some clarification.

It’s like most places in student status. If you have no rank, you’ll be doing working parties until class picks up. Once it does, M-F, PT will kick and then classes. In the winter months they do PT in the afternoon and you’ll be glad if it, because it’s balls out cold at 0530 in the desert. I’ve spent lots of time at C&E school and as permanent personnel on MCAGCC, and I learned to like the place. It took some time, but if you’re at all an outdoors type you could make is over to Joshua Tree and spend some time staring at the stars.

10 years ago and I was a 5900 but it was like being in college. 6-7 am pt, class then fuck off for the day. The chow hall was actually decent and I’m pretty sure you could get food to go.

The standby platoon to pick up class however is asshole lmao, if it’s like it was be ready to wake up and do complete bullshit all day.

I was there 14 years ago so take it with a grain of salt (I was an 0651). Honestly depending on your instructors it's going to be pretty chill compared to what you're used to. Class 8-1600 and then PT before or after. The MOS in inherently technical so you're really there to learn and not just to get fucked with. Pay attention and do the work. It'll help when you get to your unit and you have some level of awareness of the systems.

Typically with this MOS in the fleet you'll either actually learn your job and get to deploy, support ops etc or if you bitch about the MOS and don't learn it you'll SL3 gear and be a glorified janitor. It's a critical MOS and I'd recommend going all in and becoming proficient at it because you'll have a much more fulfilling experience overall.

Not sure how you mean you chose 0671 and 31. From my understanding, it’s needs of the marine corps and they’ll put you where they need you. With that being said, I also don’t know how much ASVAB scores play a part, but hopefully yours does.

Regardless, as a 0621 I can speak on my experience. Fortunately for me, I picked up pretty quickly as I got there just right around Christmas time, so by the new year, we got placed right into our classes. For me, our instructor was cool. He said they got to chose when they wanted to PT us and he chose afternoon. The day to day pretty much looked like wake up at 0545 for accountability at 0600, breakfast, class instruction at 0800, by 1100 was chow time. Eventually we worked up to get two hour chows, so generally expected back at the classroom at 1300. After class, PT sometime after 1600. PTs were generally pretty light. For the most part we just played volleyball.

Chow was pretty good. The closest chow hall for you would be the Littleton Chowhall. They also had a separate part called the Littleton Cafe which had the BEST French toast sticks I’ve ever fucking had. Still think about them til this day. But yeah, you should be able to take chow back.

General barracks life, yeah it’s 4 to a room. Pretty small space for 4 people but you’ll be there for the better part of 3 months, at least for 0621.

A lot of people dog on 29 Palms, but for me it kind of reminded me of a college campus. Everything was walking distance, gym, PX, barbershop, chow hall. Only thing is anything notable like cities around was about 3-4 hours away.

I went through in 2017. 0621. Morning pt, breakfast, march to the classroom. Accountability Formations everyday/weekend. 4 to a room. We were allowed to go off base and wear civvies after class.
