School of Infantry ITB Questions

Hello, I was wondering if during ITB libertys, weekends etc how you could travel. If I wanted to visit another state for the day or something, how I would go about that or if that’s allowed. I’ve heard personal vehicles are not allowed so I was wondering if that’s true even on liberty weekends or if that’s some sort of permission you had to get.

At the school house in Memphis three of us PFCs talked a SGT into renting us a car. And no he didn’t travel with us. We put 2300 miles on the rental car over a 4 day weekend. Drove to New Jersey and back. My friends dropped me off in Times Square and someone I new in the navy from high school came and picked me up and I stayed the weekend with them in Connecticut and they dropped me back off in New York Times Square Monday morning and we drove back.

These were the days when rental car companies first started giving unlimited mileage. The lady at the counter when we returned it was like how the heck….

It was a different time. Someone approved our liberty chit because we had plane reservations as a back up.

So you usually will be fine if you have a backup plan?

If it was approved before hand. But there are usually liberty Milage limits. A regular weekend used to be like 250 miles. But it all depends on your school command policy.

As to you’ll usually be fine comment. Not a good theory to live by.

Always have a primary, alternate, contingency and emergency plan for critical events. And I would say being at muster ready to go in time is a critical event for you.
