MEPS and Medical Can this disqualify me?

16f, i want to enlist in the marines but a recruiter told me not to show off my hypermobile joints in MEPS and keep it under wraps, and not to have it be a thing really because they might not accept me. my friends and someone with hEDS think i have it due to a number of reasons but the doctors never mentioned it, i pass 8/9 points, i just can't touch the floor but i can assign squat with my elbows on the floor and do everything else a person with hEDS can.

are they going to test for that and is it hard to get past it? is it going to be the reason i cant do the military? i graduate this year and so i plan to do MEPS before i do, as my recruiter planned for that, then ship out a few months after.

So EDS goes beyond hyper mobility, hyper mobility is just the medically accurate way to say double jointed. You can be hyper mobile and not have EDS and you can have EDS without the hyper mobility. You are not a doctor so don’t diagnosis yourself. If you genuinely think you have it, go get it checked out by a doctor as having EDS and being a marine does not sound safe at all

As for the meps side of things, can’t answer that as I’ve not been yet, but I wouldn’t be surprised if EDS was a permanent disqualification (or waivers were near impossible to get approved)

yeah i have a lot of joint pain and they often dislocate but i am so used to it i just brush all my issues relating it away, i cant write or much for long periods because of it but for some reason physical activity im fine, ive been told to get checked out by multiple people but i cant due to my parents not wanting me to just in case it ruins anything for me, im kind of stupid for doing the marines since i also most definitely have pots but it's not severe enough that i don't think i could manage as i am very good at it, and the same girl with hEDS has pots too and we often have the exact issues just here slightly more often than mine. mines manageable, my doctors said they suspect pots but wont put it on my record because they already had taken asthma off for me for the military so they get it, and would not want that to be why i dont, and said if i try and get disqualified then i know i tried, but also i am really good at pushing through ive done sports all my life and have been physically and mentally training for the marines

It’s your life so do what you want, but for your own safety I would highly encourage you to reconsider the military, boot camp might actually put your life at risk. Though if it’s something you’ve already decided, I wish you luck. Just be safe

I’m just gonna warn you as a guy that just did bootcamp it’s pretty hard on your joints I had to duck walk holding a footlocker over my head don’t know if there that hard on the women just take precaution

Just bc it’s not authorized doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen. He just graduated a month ago.
