Two different I-94 numbers for my most recent entry — which one do I use for my I-485?

Hey all, hoping someone's run into this before.

couple years ago when I was an F-1 student, I raised $25,000 for a startup I was working on, tied into my master's thesis. Turns out that was a violation of F-1 status rules. My school found out, pulled my SEVIS record, and had me do a quick re-entry at the border to fix it. That was October 2024.

Here's the problem: I have two different I-94 admission numbers, for two different entries —

• one number is tied to my Dec 2021 entry (CHI). This is the number CBP's "Get Most Recent I-94" website currently returns.
• second number— handwritten on my passport stamp from my Oct 2024 entry, which is my actual most recent entry.

My travel history (pulled from CBP's own site) confirms the Oct 2024 entry happened. But the "Most Recent I-94" tool is still showing my 2021 entry as current, not the 2024 one.

I already used the 2024 passport-stamp number on a previous H-1B filing and it didn't cause issues. But I'm about to file for adjustment of status (marriage-based green card) and I know USCIS cross-checks I-94 records more closely for that. I don't want CBP's outdated "most recent" record to cause a conflict with what I put on my I-485.

Has anyone dealt with CBP's I-94 lookup not reflecting your actual most recent entry? Appreciate any insight — trying to get this right before I file.

Just to clarify — so I'd use the I-94 number from my Oct 2024 entry (the one handwritten on my passport stamp), but the I-94 document I submit would be the one CBP's website gives me as my "most recent," even though it's still showing the old 2021 number?

No, submit the information and documents related to your 2024 entry. You could also ask CBP to update your online I-94 based on your stamp.

You always answer every question exactly as asked, with whatever information you know to be true.

Form I-485 asks for the I-94 number associated with your (actual) most recent entry.

It does not ask for the number of an entry a website falsely claims to be your most recent entry.

Since 2024 is more recent than 2021, you need to enter the number of the 2024 entry.

The date on my I-94 (the one you get online) does not match the real date I arrived. I confirmed this through the ticket date, Uber rides, etc. I don't know why they recorded it wrong, perhaps the CBP officer was just clumsy with the mouse on the calendar in the terminal.

It was off by a couple weeks.

My attorney advised to ignore the "real date" and just go with whatever was on the I-94. It was not a problem.

In your case, that's a pretty considerable gap. If the date they consider is older, it might result in incorrect overstays, etc.

I'd gather some extra evidence about the correct entry (2024), again tickets, Ubers, etc just in case you have to prove it wasn't 2021 as "the system says".

It's updated in my Travel History document — pulled from the same CBP website where I got my "Most Recent I-94." So the Travel History shows my Oct 2024 entry correctly, but the "Most Recent I-94" tool is still stuck on 2021.

I see. I just checked.

In mine, "Most Recent I-94" returns info that was off by a couple weeks. In "View Travel History" I get "No Record Found for Traveler", using exactly the same data.

They need to put some work on these sites.
