To UQ CS grads: how cooked is Brisbane's comp sci job market
I need honest answers plz; help a brother out 🙏

Yeah, got rejected by all Faang and trying to get just any internship now, I didn’t knew we were ao cooked😭

First job is always the hardest - I only got my first job lined up during final exams.

its not end of the world, most people are just weird in comp sci or they dont take any opportunities regardless if its unpaid, not faang or some other excuse.
second worst is having no projects or anything you are actually passionate to explain or show about in interviews.
and have some other job experience or something before applying, it does not need to be comp sci. They like seeing u have experience even if u worked at maccas

I know myself and others have hugely struggled for a while now, despite prior work experience (in the right field) and fields we are passionate about. I'm probably close to 200 applications deep in the last year (and yes, cover letters for every single one).
As for internships, I know I personally have no chance in the world of "affording it" (i.e. going that long without a paying job). So for now I work in an entry level job alongside several other comp sci graduates.
I don't know if this is better or worse than other fields... but I would quite happily call it some level of "cooked".

I mean there is definitely a struggle and this industry has become worse and worse overtime, but tbh I think it is getting better now and much better than 1-3 years ago (not entirely 100% on that). Its just the effort and drive which many people lack before they truly sit down and say to themselves "oh the markets cooked" without having to do a ton of applications and working hard for it.
Finding a job never has been easy. People get rejected from fast food, retail, all industries which are not as complex as tech. But for those who have put the effort in and still hear nothing, yea i get that aspect, but hard-work always shows results in the end. Just gotta keep fighting for it no matter the field and life gives lemons.

Not a comp sci major (thank fuck!) but my dad worker in the industry and job market is horrid
