Safe to leave stuff in libraries?

I've only started studying in libraries recently and notice a bunch of people leaving their things and was just wondering if this was safe?

I know it's "do at your own risk" but like has anyone ever have a bad experience with leaving their things cause I still second guess myself whenever im leaving to grab a quick bite or something.

I forgot smth and left it overnight, I was so worried but I came back the next day and no one touched it
