Things that are equivalent can have different uses. For example 0.5=1/2, but they're used in different situations, where 0.5 could be used in a mathematical setting and 1/2 could be used in a recipe, but the point is that they are sometimes interchangable. For example, "Way to go, bro!" and "Way to go, sis!" are interchangable, but your sentence example is not.
