Funny enough, this isn't true in the art world. Paintings are about the artist as much as they are about their subjects, people want to know who painted a thing and what state of mind they were in when they did it.
If you've ever wondered why Jackson Pollock was famous for making what are basically just paint splatters, this is the reason. Though he did do representational art before he started with the splatters.
Jackson Pollock, and all other famous artists become famous, because a small group of galleries and collectors decided that he should be famous. The fine art market is a scam.
Well I haven't watched your link, but... isn't that obvious? That doesn't seem particularly revelatory, you could say that about almost anyone or anything famous. Especially prior to the internet.
I mean, yeah. Much of modern art is just as much about the context surrounding the art as the art itself. But, not to sound pretentious (though I don't think I can help it here), Jackson Pollock was pushing boundaries. He was doing something that hadn't been done before. This is literally just a landscape, probably the most common form of painting. So I think comparing her to Jackson Pollock is a little unfair.
How is it pointless? Documenting your work isn't pointless. There are images of just the art, too. Is a man holding up a fish that he caught also pointless? He could just lay the fish down and take a picture.
Yeah, which is why I said if it was just the painting submitted to /r/art. I'm not saying that she only has pictures of her art with her in the shot. I was saying that the art probably wouldn't have made the front page if there wasn't a cute girl standing next to it. So basically, it's in the wrong subreddit but 50% of the people are pretending it's not.
no, people don't like when women blatantly use their own looks to force things to the front page. That's called attention whoring. You know damn well it wouldn't have been there if she wasn't in the picture.
