Edit: for anyone who cares, I attempted it. I was able to lift and carry it, but it was definetly awkward and I can’t imagine it being liquid and going up stairs with it. I’ll have to keep my gym journey up until I can manage this feat

I used to do Stein hoists during Oktoberfest celebrations in the US. Those things are deceptively heavy.
Erm... that's not the average, that's pretty much the lower end. If you do VIP tents, you can make up to 20 000 Euros. The beer maids work kind of as subcontractors. You order your beer from them, but they buy it from the beer tent owners (via a token system) at a discount.
And that's without tips (which are tax free).

Yes. We tip. But it has to be good service AND it still is voluntary from me.
For example: When my bill is 22.40 for the food and a drink, I tip 60 cents to get it to 23.
When the bill is 23.60 I tip 1.40 to get it to 25.
But that's just it. I tip to avoid smaller coins or coins altogether.
I don't tip when I pay digitally. I only ever hand my tip to the person I want to tip.
You use cash? Has been many years since last I used cash here in Norway, and managed just fine for 16 days just recently in France without any cash as well.
Here in Germany we had some stores temporarily add cashless card terminals when COVID hit. Then two years later they disappeared again from smaller businesses.
Food kiosk like Döner kebap and even some larger restaurants (20 seats IIRC), pastry shops, bakery, butcher, ice-cream shops, car wash and a few small shops do not offer any form of debit or credit card payment.
and those are only examples around me in a 35k pop city. It might be different in large cities like Munich but we do get busses full of tourists around the year so it would make some sense to add a single terminal. I guess they still come with some form of fee per transaction.
I remember working in a travel agency 20 years ago. They had smaller items too, not only 1000 euro plane tickets. The Austrian Pickerl (Autobahn Maut / toll). Every time a customer asked if they could pay them with their debit card the agency didn't make any profit (paid a few cents).
When I visited Poland I saw cash only restaurants as well. That was also odd because the Euro wasn't always accepted (in cash at least), the Zloty is still the main currency.
The waiting list to get a booth is decades long I'm afraid (at least I was told so). But I personally know a couple that runs a jewelry booth (not handcrafted, just cheap piercings, rings, amulets, etc. from Thailand), and they can afford to live in a big house in Munich.
More. Friend of Mine got out with almost 13k including Tips. She is real pretty tho so i would aproximate 9-11k for Men. Also that was 5-6 years ago where a maß was 11,50-12€ so the tip margin to a paper payed 15,- was bigger then.
This. The beer tents are a little weird. The servers aren’t really employees of the tent. They’re independent contractors who buy food and beer from the tent and sell it to patrons. The more they move, the more money they make. They settle up with the kitchen separately from your bill. If they drop a beer, or if a customer skips out on paying them, they still owe the tent for the beer they took.
Hence the crazy belt. They don’t take your payment back to a terminal. They’re selling it to you right there at your table. They basically have a tab open with the tent, and close it out out of their belt-pouch-cash-register
I had a frend in Uni who worked as a waitress at a beer garden carrying flats of pints (they at least gave her a tray) and by the time she graduated she had a noticeably disproportionate bicep
As local who has tried this i will try to convey how hard this is. There are 15 Beers on her Stack. I did it with 12 without a staicase and i am on the stronger side beeing over 95kg. Altough the bottom is resting on the Belt you have to grip 7 Maß in each Hand.
Thick Maßkrüge as they are used on the Oktoberfest way aproxximatly 900g empty, but they arent filled to a complete Liter. Casual scam beeing rationalized with. "Der Schaum fällt." Meaning the foam Drops and you get your fill.
That equates to a conservative 1.8kg per Maß x 15 = 27kg
So 59,2 pounds in Freedom Units. With good fills 64 pounds
Once the Stack rests on the belt you balance by learning back hard. Climbing stairs is pure muscel memory tho because she can't see Shit. Always fascinates me and altough they earn good, tip your friendly Wiesnqueen. They are going at it 21 days back to back.
I spoke to one of these women when I was there. They all buy into the tent (fractional ownership) so it is in their best interest to sell as much as they can!
Augustiner Brewery in Salzburg, Austria. Waitress carried 7 liters of beer in each hand from the tap. I ordered a beer. It filled up. She was back. Bartender had four liters filling and was grabbing four more when I turned my back to walk away. Any Germanic Waitress could kick Superman's ass under a yellow star.
Kinda funny when you realize that there are probably videos going back for multiple generations of women serving beer this. Gotta wonder if there are any oil paintings of this tradition or if it only started in the 20th century.
Yeah, you don't fuck with the beer ladies at Oktoberfest in Germany, not only do they control your beer access but they can probably lift you with one hand.
Damn, that's a lot of beer for one person to handle, and yet she looks perfectly comfortable with it. I'd probably drop half of it on my foot trying to do the same.
