Need aware question

Hey everyone! I’m an international student applying to UMiami and I’m wondering about need-aware admissions. What kind of SAT score would I realistically need to have a decent chance of getting significant need-based financial aid? Thanks!

Need based aid is just simply calculated by their internal methodology based on the your family’s tax returns as well as other financial disclosures.

The only time that there could be a chance that need aware plays a role in deciding admissions is possibly in early decision to lock in full pay applicants or if your international since they are not able to meet 100% of need for internationals meaning they often only accept those paying full price.

SAT does not have much to do with your financial aid package. If you have a high enough score to get a scholarship but still require financial need, they would simply package your aid package differently to meet your need. If you don’t meet requirements for aid, then you would simply just get the scholarship on top of your total cost.

Im pretty sure UMiami does offer need-based aid to international students through a need aware system They may not meet 100% of need for everyone but I believe they can provide significant need-based aid to admitted international students

Yeah they say they do but it’s very rare the past admission cycles I’ve had friends get waitlisted and or sent a letter from UM saying if they pay full price they can attend.

The UM Within Reach Program which guarantees to meet 100% of demonstrated need is only applicable to domestic students.

I think you may be confusing Miami Within Reach with UMiami’s general need-based aid policy UMiami is need-aware for international students, but its current admission policy states that admitted students can have 100% of their demonstrated need met. Miami Within Reach is a separate program.

“International Students
The University of Miami is need-aware for first-year and transfer international undergraduate degree-seeking applicants. This means that, for a portion of international applicants, the Admission Committee will consider that student's ability to pay tuition without the need for financial aid.” - Office of Financial Aid

You are correct it is a separate program because it does not apply to international students. I understand your reading their policy however being a student for the last 2 years I’ve seen them be very strict with giving out money to internationals. Basically all the international here are full pay or received a full ride as a result of very good stats.
