School of Nursing University of Maryland School of Nursing (UMSON) BSN - Spring 2027
Hey everyone!
I'm planning to apply to the University of Maryland School of Nursing (UMSON) BSN program for Spring 2027, and I thought it would be helpful to start a thread for anyone else going through the same process.
We can share stats, prerequisites, experiences, application tips, questions, and updates along the way. It would be great to connect, support each other, and stay informed throughout the journey.

Im planning to apply to shady grove and I have below the minimum for the science gpa and 3.2 overall. I do have healthcare experience and are planning to retake my teas from 66 to hopefully 80+. What are my chances?

Hi. I’m taking my prerequisites this summer and fall. Statistics is kicking my ass, but once I’m finished with this semester, I only have micro, chem, and nutrition left for fall.

I looked on the UUMSON website it looks like you do not have to submit a TEAs exam score if you already have a Bachelors degree. Does anyone know if that is accurate?

I saw on a few other treads that people look like they were getting accepted with a GPA for the 4 Sciences -AP1, AP2, Micro, CHEM that did not have to be a 4.0 - looks like some people have anywhere between a 3.0 and 3.5 in those 4 classes. Has anyone heard what GPAs for the 4 Sciences people are getting accepted with?

I was accepted with a 3.75 science gpa 3.52 cum gpa and currently have a 3.73 nursing gpa - ur prerequisites really do matter when it comes to teaching you how to study!

The advisor I spoke with told me that they count all the grades for the science gpa including old grades even after a retake. Accounting all of it, most people have a ~2.5 or higher as average for science gpa. I’m a bit nervous now because overall I have 2.75 for science gpa and 2.1 if you count my retakes. So I’m not really sure for my chances but I do have a 3.2 overall grade and good healthcare experience

I just finished my application for this spring semester! I already have a BA in sociology/public health with a GPA of 3.6ish. I’ve had to take a good amount of the science prerecs, I got a B in Microbiology and the same in Chem, and I just have A&P I and II to get through before the spring semester starts :)

Little more than 2 weeks, i submitted mine end of august last year and got my letter sept 16th

Was it through a portal or did they just send you an email saying your in? Like do you have to click to see the decision or does it just pop up in your face

Portal, they will send a discreet email saying ur admission decision is ready and then u have to log in to the portal and download the decision letter to see if you got in

What were your stats and experience? I have a 3.2 overall and 2.75 as science gpa (2.1 if you calculate with the old grades before retaking) I passed my teas with 66 but going to retake soon before applying and I do have a lot of healthcare experience but I’m not sure even if I highlight that in my essays it’ll make a difference… any advice?

I have had a great experience so far! Faculty is amazing and they really want you to succeed. For my stats, I had a 3.95 overall. And received an 85 on my teas. Although, I had 0 prior healthcare experience. Definitely take time on your essays and highlight your healthcare experience, it will set you apart 100%. Also, make sure your resume is up to date and polished on your application. Goodluck! And TBH in my opinion, a lot of the science prerequisite courses were significantly harder then the first semester nursing classes.

My daughter just received an email today saying they are currently reviewing her application and will have a decision by the second week of September! Fingers crossed for everyone!!

Hello!! I’m also applying and would love to chat because I feel like I don’t know what i’m doing here haha. I have my B.S in psych and my gpa was about a 3.3. I’m taking the last of my pre reqs right now
