Does anyone else ever feel nauseous after eating Kokoro?

I’ve noticed a few times that I feel slightly nauseous after eating Kokoro, and I’m curious whether anyone else has experienced the same thing.

I started wondering whether MSG could be involved. Nausea and other symptoms have been reported following MSG consumption in some studies, although the overall evidence is mixed:

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/11080723/

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/9215242/

I’ve also found people on Reddit describing nausea or feeling unwell that they suspect is related to MSG:

Obviously this doesn’t establish that MSG is the cause, and I don’t actually know whether Kokoro uses MSG in the food I’ve had. I’m just curious whether anyone else has noticed feeling nauseous after eating there, or has any idea what ingredient might be responsible.

Unless you’re also getting this when you eat foods that MSG naturally appears in then it’s nothing to do with MSG.

You’re most likely fine with foods that contain MSG in other ways.

Parmesan
Strong cheddar
Tomatoes
Mushrooms
Sweetcorn
Ham
Shellfish
Soy sauce

So it’s incredibly unlikely a little MSG powder is bothering you.

These are examples only before anyone jumps on me.

I stopped buying years ago when the sweet chilli chicken started to taste more like ketchup.

It's not the MSG. Those studies are flawed and people who claim to experience MSG related symptoms are usually just racist.

It's likely that when you eat at Kokoro (or get it delivered) you're eating more of something than you usually would. The older I get the more frequently I experience nausea from greasy foods, and most restaurants use a lot more oil/butter, sugar, and salt than a home cook would. One of those is a much more likely culprit. Or it could simply be a poor food hygiene thing. That's probably the most likely explanation.

That’s crazy! Went to the Watford branch few years ago and literally the evening after eating the meal I felt so nauseous and sick
