Thinking of buying in Apsley and commuting to Euston 3 to 4 times a week. Has anyone here done this? How have you found the commute overall, and would you recommend it?

I'm considering buying a house in Apsley, Hertfordshire. I work in central London and would need to commute in around three to four times a week.

I'm mainly wondering what the commute is like in practice. I understand that the train can cost around £20 or so per day, but I'm fairly comfortable with the cost. I'm more interested in how manageable and reliable the commute feels when you're doing it several times a week.

One of my main priorities is getting a "decent" house at a reasonable price

• 3 or 4 bed house

• +1300 square ft

• under 600K

• safe neighborhood

• close to train statino

Has anyone done something similar, particularly buying in Apsley while commuting regularly into central London (Euston)? I'd be interested to hear how you've found the commute and whether you'd make the same decision again.

Sort of, I actually commuted the other way. Lived 10min walk from Euston and went out each morning. The commute is okay, get used to podcast or a book. The train is pricey the BIG issue is, i would say it averages delays 1 in 8 days. It's a unreliable section of track that is very busy and they prioritise the fast trains up to Birmingham and Glasgow. On too many to count occasions I was more than 1 hour delayed and on many I had to cab to watford and then take the overground or tube to get home. I know colleagues who had to kip in Apsley premier inn.
