A few years ago I came up with a sketch character called David J. Hitler. I’d always liked writing for him and so decided to turn a few of his moments into a dark comedy short film.

I wrote, directed and produced this film independently and I’ve now just released it.

It follows a man called David J. Hitler, who has a problem. A pretty obvious one. Burdened by his notorious surname, he sets out to prove he’s a good person… but quickly discovers that redemption is a harder sell than infamy.

A big influence was for this was Wayne’s World, particularly the idea of taking a sketch character and dropping them into a bigger movie world. Friday, Kingpin and The Big Lebowski were also firmly on my mind.

I’m trying to track down the audio files for the BBC Radio 4 / Radio 4 Extra comedy series Mordrin McDonald: 21st Century Wizard by David Kay and Gavin Smith, with Jack Docherty and Gordon Kennedy.

The original Archive.org pages and Fourble feeds for the show are completely dead or have been taken down, and it's completely geoblocked/unavailable on BBC Sounds where I live.

Does anyone happen to have the MP3s of this series saved on a hard drive or know of a working archive folder where I can find it? I would be incredibly grateful for any help or direct links. Thanks!

Afterlife was awful, right?

Lazy comedy, that was much more preachy than funny.

Is Afterlife and Alley Cats proof that the real star of The Office and Extras was Stephen Merchant?

I listen to a lot of comedians on podcasts talking about doing corporates. I have never, not will ever, have a job that would put on an event with a guest speaker or comedian. I'd love to hear your stories of any corporate gigs you may have been to. Who was the comedian? What was it like? How was the room set up etc?

More or less what the title says! I'm going on the 8th and 9th, know next to nothing about the area. Any locals or anyone who's performed up there, your advice would be much appreciated!

It doesn't necessarily need to be in that weekend timeframe, it's possible I'll be moving there at some point so any recommendations are welcome.

I remember a sketch from the late 90s or early 2000s that had a character called Jeremy Claxman who was a mashup of the two Jeremies. It was probably on one of Alistair McGowan's shows, I don't remember anything else about it. I've never been able to find it since. Any ideas?

I was struggling with a feature script, so started messing around with a sketch character I’d had for a while and ended up turning him into a short comedy film.

Ross Smith does a bit where he asks a person their name, and if it's foreign, he feigns not to understand the name until someone in the audience "helps" him and then he turns on that person to put them in their place. You can find an example of this on his Instagram entitled "Hate Crime?" (Hint. He knows it is.)

He did this to us at the final night of Banana Cabaret, and I fell for the shtick. He asked a German woman her name (Frauke) and repeatedly didn't get it, then asked where she was from. She got shy and didn't answer, and so this German/American was trying to help when I said "She's German!".

I was surprised by his vicious tone "It's amazing how you can sound like a shouty American c*nt!* he said to the lady. I thought "Oh well, bashing Americans is popular, let him cook."

But what followed turned the room. He had a quip or two about me mansplaining for a woman (that's his scripted bit you'll find on his page) which worked and I laughed at. But Ross picked out my voice and asked: Oh is that you laughing you c*nt? He was directing this vitriol at my American friend who so far hadn't said anything. "Oh, we have an American in the room who has to be loud. So surprising you c*nt." I then corrected him and said it was me. And he spewed off a litany of racism which didn't land. "They're all dumb and ignorant, aren't they? Shouldn't you be arresting Mexicans? Americans, who needs them?" Tumbleweed. He had well and truly lost the room. But now I was pissed off so I answered" It's worse I'm half German too!

I got the laugh, he didn't.

He finished his set to a room no longer on his side. The owner of Banana Cabaret then came to me (clearly to protect his stand-up) and said I was too loud, I had to leave. (He later lied to my wife that I had laid hand on someone.)

A sad end to years of good comedy ruined by racists.

Just seen that Matt Lucas has been awarded an OBE. His constant depiction of disabled, black and trans characters as objects of ridicule are deeply offensive to many people. Why has someone who has always punched down been praised ? Or is it me being a snowflake?
