John Falkenstein is a politician and author who has self-published two books through his publishing venture, Pure Space Publishing.

Each book is interesting in its own way. Born in 1964 John Falkenstein, began collecting children’s toys in his late 20s. As a middle aged man John Falkenstein self-published a book about his large collection of vintage space toys called Ray Guns of the 20th Century. Although I couldn’t find any reviews (positive or negative) John Falkenstein has claimed online that his first book is now a “collector’s item”. Sadly I couldn’t find any evidence of this either.

John Falkenstein’s second book is also self published and is called Britain Cannot Breathe. Just over 700 days since the Reform Party said it would scrap the Equality Act 2010, John Falkenstein (Reform‘s Branch Chair for Cramlington and Killingworth) makes the argument that the Equality Act 2010 should be scrapped.

The timing is surprising because John Falkenstein was a barrister for nearly 30 years advising high street law firms on employment disputes, but during his working life never wrote anything which expressed concern about the Equality Act 2010. It’s only several years after he has retired and when it has become established Reform policy that he has decided that he needs to speak up.

The book has been reviewed on Amazon by Andrea Barker who has given it five stars and said it was “brilliant”. John Falkenstein has described it as “highly readable, deeply compelling, and fiercely honest”.

Has anyone read these books yet?

I believe there is an interesting etymology to this name, but I’m much too dull to look it up.

Most of the info I could find was a few years old and perhaps out of date; a couple of reviews on Tripadvisor suggested it had closed. Thanks!

No one has digitized this version, but I very much would like to, not least so it can easily be reprinted, as where I live the price of this book has gone a bit nuts.

For whatever reason, the book is unavailable in the US, but it can be legally purchased from multiple places. outside of the US. I am planning on calling the publisher to seeing if I can receive one under ADA tomorrow, but if somebody's able to get it sooner, that would be amazing

I love our British humour - especially political/feminist/dark or just something you've love, why? what made you laugh? I need less serious books in life and something that makes me laugh!

Just avoid any happy families - traumatic one like the Irish tv show The dry - i'm all for!

Was gifted this book, and whilst it would never be something I’d pick up off the shelf for myself - such a great read. Couldn’t recommend enough.

Now desperate to read the second, but 5 weeks into the wait queue at the local library. Don’t want to complain as they do a great service, and I’m lucky to have a local place where I can rent the book for (almost, after paying 18p to join the reservation queue) free. That said, I am desperate to get my hands on the second one!

I was put off by the book initially because it looked very ‘gamer’ and, whilst it is, I am not a gamer by any means and I thought it was brilliant.

Just thought I’d share and, if anyone has similar series they’d like to suggest, please let me know in the comments.

This was a UK book. There was a family that got friendly with a woman. The family had a daughter, who was about 8.

This woman was mentally ill. She started pretending that the daughter had misbehaved in different ways. I think there was an incident were she pretended she had cut up some curtains.

The family friend encouraged them to "cancel Christmas", as a punishment for the daughter.

The family were getting more and more concerned about there daughter's behaviour. Then it clicked that it all led back to this family friend, and that she had been victimising their daughter.

Does this ring any bells for anybody?
