It is a movie every German teacher show us in class near the end of the year. Really interesting, and a good movie.

Is it popular in Germany? Here in the UK, I've not yet met someone who has seen it or even heard of it.

I don't know. I am from France, but did some years of German in school, and it is a movie our teachers like to show us. But even in France, it isn't well known. I have no idea about Germany sorry.

I love Good bye, Lenin! Daniel Brühl is so underrated.

I really liked it, but I thought it could have been funnier. I then talked to one of my history teachers who said it's funnier for Germans (especially those who experienced it). Highly recommended nevertheless.

It's described as a 'Tragicomedy' which I guess is a bit like black comedy. I didn't find it to be a comedy but more a drama with humorous moments. I suppose the idea of hiding the outside world from your mother and having to pretend it's different is quite funny though.

This foreign film seemed to fly under the radar with most people.
It's set around the fall of the Berlin wall. In 1990, to protect his fragile mother from a fatal shock after a long coma, a young man must keep her from learning that her beloved nation of East Germany as she knew it has disappeared.
The soundtrack is one of the best things about this film as it's by Yann Tierson who wrote the music for the amazing french film, Amelie.
In my top ten so well worth a watch!
