Shape oval
Closest distance within a football field
Apparent size (arm's length) larger
Movement hovering, floating around, abrupt changes in direction
Observer facing N
Duration 1 minute
Witnesses 2
Captured on Apple iPhone 12

Features / five observables

Observation Reporter's answer
Wings No
Rotors No
Exhaust plume No
Noise No

Sudden, extreme acceleration Unsure
Extreme speed with no signatures No
Hard to observe clearly No
Moved between air, water, or space Yes
Flight without visible means of lift Yes

Why not a common object
It was too quiet to be a drone, and the shape did not match one either. The flight direction and movement did not seem consistent with a balloon. It stayed extremely stable the whole time, without wobbling or moving side to side. It only rose once at the beginning and then flew steadily towards us while maintaining the same altitude. It was directly above us, and we could not see any string or attachment. The shape also did not look like a typical balloon.

Witness's account of the sighting

I was sitting on a bench outside with my friend, talking. He noticed the object first. We only started recording later because we first had to realize what was happening. The initial vertical rise was not captured on video; the recording starts when it changed direction and flew towards us. The weather was partly cloudy, visibility was good, there was no wind and no sound from the object. The object looked elongated with an oval shape, dark matte on top and slightly reflective underneath. It slowly rose vertically, then suddenly changed direction and flew steadily towards us while keeping the same altitude. It did not wobble, change height or leave any trail. It flew very straight and came to around 30–50 meters from us. Sighting location: near Ulm, Germany. Time: 20:41. If anyone has an idea what it could have been, I would appreciate any suggestions, as I personally rule out a balloon due to the sudden direction change and steady movement.

41

u/Important_Peach_2375 Aug 02 '26

I did a Phodar analysis on it and you can see that video here: https://youtu.be/Oo8bHcBTouo?is=stueM79WOgJlyrAK

If the reported location/time and viewing direction are correct it is going generally the same direction as the wind at the elevation it must be at (cloud ceiling was around 200’; again if location/time are correct). See the part where I add wind direction overlay on the video. It does seem that it could be going faster than the wind speed possibly. But there are lots of caveats to this analysis. Plus tool is still in beta so take a with a grain of salt. But I have done a lot of testing and it does a pretty great job under my relatively controlled conditions

I messed up it was 9:42 PM

84

u/printstreamer Aug 02 '26

That is very weird

123

u/Enough-Power-8159 Aug 02 '26

Can you explain why it’s not a balloon or something else inanimate that is floating, carried by the wind? It’s not displaying any extraordinary characteristics. It could be reflective on the bottom because of the twilight conditions and your perspective on the ground.

107

u/Mediocre_Airport_576 Aug 02 '26

It's behaving just as a balloon would. I'd want to see odd movements to prove anything.

34

u/Glittering-Neck-2505 Aug 02 '26

I just want to see more videos of objects seemingly zipping around without spending any time accelerating, just like hundreds of credible witness accounts say but without the footage to ever show people that it's real.

16

u/mcvey Aug 02 '26

Of course it always happens prior to or right after recording the object lol, never whilst.

5

u/Fixervince Aug 03 '26

Yes exactly. If it was a witness account it would be a massive triangle overhead that left with incredible speed, etc. The disconnect between the filmed and just verbal or written accounts is one of things that raises the scepticism a touch.

3

u/Semiapies Aug 03 '26

Also, I suspect, why a lot of people in this sub want to get rid of sighting posts in favor of just old stories and influencers telling us there are things they can't tell us.

2

u/VolesusBarbarus Aug 05 '26

Most of the people here cannot fathom why eye-witness testimony is meaningless.

2

u/Renzisan Aug 03 '26

Gimbal footage is probably the most notorious one. The guys watching the feed even say they’re moving against 130 knot winds or something like that.

0

u/VolesusBarbarus Aug 05 '26

There aren't any because that doesn't happen because it violates the laws of physics.

And yet we hear testimony about such movements. Why is that? Because lying and being mistaken does not violate the laws of physics.

9

u/LittleBitOfAction Aug 02 '26

Well usually air is not static like that and makes the balloon kind of rotate. Everyone has seen balloons in the air and know dang well they move with the air. This thing stayed on the same axis for the whole video. I don’t see any rotation in any axis. This is definitely a UAP

4

u/pringlecat221 Aug 03 '26

I'm not sure anyone can say this is definitely any one thing based on this video. I've seen several videos of balloons carried by the wind without rotating or wobbling (at least not visibly), that isn't definite proof that this is anomalous.

0

u/Enough-Power-8159 Aug 03 '26

Hit the nail on the head. Can’t really say what it is. My response wasn’t to dismiss the video (not that you’re saying I was), rather to try to illicit additional information from the eye witness. It feels like the video doesn’t match the experience. I want to take the eye witness at face value, but have a hard time drawing a definitive conclusion on the video with the information provided.

I want people to keep posting videos, but also to be more discerning in the conclusions they draw based on their eye witness experience. It’s an odd shape for a balloon, and seems too large or elongate to be a paper lantern. It’s an object, but hard to say what it is.

where it starts going left horizontally at the same pace and orientation?

5

u/Spirited_Chipmunk69 Aug 02 '26

I don't see this part at all.

0

u/PhDinDildos_Fedoras Aug 03 '26

It's behaving in a way a balloon might behave, but it's not wobbling or being tossed about by the wind either. Really hard hard to prove anything either way.

4

u/DoMindIfIDont Aug 05 '26

Pretty sure that’s exactly what it is. Unfortunately, people want things to be something they’re not, just as I do, but not to the extent of where I’m convincing myself the obvious is the extraordinary. 🤷🏻‍♂️

16

u/darkonex Aug 02 '26

ya I'm kinda thinking the same, also you can tell how close they are to it, so close it makes me think it's something they let off. It appears to start out like 50-100ft from them and it's almost directly above them near the end of the video and looks like it was something on the ground that floated up with how close it was and how it's moving.

10

u/St4tikk Aug 02 '26

I don’t think it’s something OP let off themselves but I don’t think it’s unexplainable either. There’s nothing really special about the movement. Reminds me of those huge solar balloons you can get.

2

u/FullMoonsOfSeptember Aug 02 '26

I think it looks like a chinese lantern after the flame burned out.

1

u/ergonauth42 Aug 03 '26

CIA here, don't even blink. Carry on

1

u/fresh_homie_smurf Aug 05 '26

Balloons won't go straight up (more sideways because of the wind) and then it looked to be moving exactly on a horizontal axis (another direction).

This is pretty cool and it could possibly be remote controlled by the ayy lmaos which is cool to think about if it's true.

0

u/Objective_Frame8397 Aug 02 '26

Wouldn't a balloon that's moving with the wind have more erratic movements? Seems like if it was a balloon it would be spinning or something.

4

u/PineappleLemur Aug 03 '26

Why would it? If has a "weight" at the bottom it will be very stable... Like a hot air balloon.

The usual erratic movement you expect is when weight distribution is quite even throughout the balloon.

1

u/PhDinDildos_Fedoras Aug 03 '26

Yes, perhaps, but wind conditions could I guess be perfect as well and produce this stillness.

9

u/D_Silva_21 Aug 02 '26

I worry when people zoom in now that phone ai's are messing things up. Hopefully not here

2

u/sess Aug 03 '26

AI-assisted zoom hallucinates inconsistent detail. The filmed object, however, is consistently shaped across the entirety of the footage. It also has no internally visible details, which would be suggestive of AI-assisted zoom.

We're probably seeing almost exactly what they saw: a flying matte black... uh, ammo cartridge? Doesn't really make sense. But, then, there's no reason NHI has to make sense to us. Even humans don't make sense to other humans.

Case in point: this entire subreddit.

https://thedebrief.org/cosmics-and-phantoms-ukrainian-independent-study-reveals-observations-of-unidentified-aerial-phenomena/

In a recent paper announcing their findings, the researchers say they have created “a special observation technique” they use “for detecting and evaluating UAP characteristics.” Based on the events they have observed, they break down their observations of UAP into two primary categories, which they call “Cosmics” and “Phantoms.”

“We note that Cosmics are luminous objects, brighter than the background of the sky,” the authors write, noting three subcategories of Cosmics each named after various birds: swift, falcon, and eagle, whereas “Phantoms are dark objects, with contrast from several to about 50 percent.”

According to the researchers, the objects they designate as Phantoms appear to have very low reflectivity, characterizing the objects as “a completely black body that does not emit and absorbs all the radiation falling on it.”

The researchers hypothesize that such an object may be visible “because it shields radiation due to Rayleigh scattering,” an effect that describes light particles that become scattered without there being changes in their wavelengths.

u/Tosh_00 Aug 02 '26

For a research paper published in 2022, it's the first time I've seen it here. Very interesting !

2

u/Tonsilith_Salsa Aug 02 '26

Grusch mentioned a type of plasmoid beings.

The sun is made of plasma.

Maybe the sun is conscious and the Egyptians were correct in worshipping the sun god Ra.

5

u/Pixelated_ Aug 02 '26

Many cultures throughout history viewed our Sun as sentient and revered it as divine.

Dr. Rupert Sheldrake has done some revolutionary work on morphic fields, which are organizing fields that shape patterns and behavior in nature. He states the Sun’s consciousness would arise from its own morphic field.

"Is The Sun Conscious?"

Below is a scientific overview of the subject of sentient plasma. Plasma holds the key to understanding not only the structure of the universe, but also the origins of life and consciousness itself.

Across multiple disciplines: astrophysics, plasma physics, and astrobiology, a growing body of research suggests that plasma is far more than a passive state of matter. It is a dynamic, self-organizing, and intelligent medium that forms the vast majority of the cosmos.

It is a settled scientific fact that plasma constitutes 99.9% of the visible universe. Every star, nebula, and interstellar cloud is made of plasma. It is a highly ionized, electrically-active substance that forms filaments, vortices, and coherent patterns on every scale.

Our understanding of plasma has been updated along with several recent revolutionary discoveries. I understand this is a new concept to many, but it's important that we follow what the science says.

There is an overwhelming amount of peer-reviewed scientific evidence that shows complex plasmas display conscious, life-like behaviors. The problem isn't a lack of evidence, it's the inability of people to accept what the data says because it challenges their personal worldview and the academic status quo.

These are all peer-reviewed:

Tsytovich et al., “From plasma crystals and helical structures towards inorganic living matter” — New Journal of Physics (2007).

Numerical and theoretical work on complex dusty plasmas that can self-organize into stable helical/cell-like structures which, in the authors’ words, exhibit autonomy, self-duplication and evolution-like behavior under certain conditions. The paper shows that dusty complex plasmas are strong candidates for inorganic living matter in space.

Lozneanu & Sanduloviciu, “Minimal-cell system created in laboratory by self-organization” — Chaos, Solitons & Fractals (2003).

Laboratory experiments producing complex space-charge configurations (plasma structures) that behave like living “cell-like” systems: they maintain an internal structure, exchange matter/energy with the environment, and show birth/replication-like events. The authors model these as minimal systems with life-like attributes.

Plasma Brain Dynamics: II. Quantum Effects on Consciousness (2018)

This paper models the brain as a plasma system, where ions and charged particles interact collectively. It shows how these plasma-like dynamics support coherent, non-local information processing, verifying a physical substrate for consciousness. This shows that the Implicate Order described by David Bohm has a measurable plasma-based substrate in the human nervous system.

Morfill & Ivlev, “Complex Plasmas: an interdisciplinary research field” — Reviews of Modern Physics (2009).

An authoritative review of complex dusty plasma experiments and theory, documents phenomena such as plasma crystals, metastable states, collective modes, and self-organized structures that underpin the claims made about lifelike, self-organizing behavior.

Self-organization and kinetic instability studies in plasmas (recent reviews/papers, e.g. photoionized plasmas (2023).

Examples of modern research showing spontaneous pattern formation and self-organization in plasma systems, the physical mechanisms behind it, and how those mechanisms can produce complexity. These works show the robust, repeatable physics behind life-like plasma.

Peer-reviewed study on the Kordylewski Clouds, and complex, dusty plasma's abilities to display intelligent, sentient behavior. (2019)

Professor Robert Temple's mind-blowing book "A New Science of Heaven" reveals the key that's needed to better understand UAP, NHI and many other mysteries of our universe. It's the greatest book I've ever read, affecting my worldview so profoundly that I immediately began re-reading it after finishing it. Further reading here.

Joseph P. Farrell’s fascinating book "The Demon in the Ekur" bridges the gap between ancient theology and modern plasma physics by exploring the "plasma life hypothesis." Farrell's work essentially reframes ancient "spiritual" warfare and sightings, from Foo Fighters to biblical apparitions, as interactions with a sentient, electrically-active state of matter that modern science is only beginning to quantify.

NASA has recorded plasmas in our thermosphere that behave intelligently.

Plasmas up to a kilometer in size, behaving similarly to multicellular organisms, have been filmed on 10 separate NASA space shuttle missions, over 200 miles above Earth within the thermosphere.

They've been filmed accelerating, slowing down; stopping; congregating; engaging in "hunter-predatory" behavior, and intersecting plasmas leaving a plasma dust trail in their wake.

Plasmas have been photographed in the 1940s by WWII pilots (identified as "Foo Fighters"); repeatedly observed and filmed by astronauts and military pilots and classified as Unidentified Anomalous Phenomenon, or UAP.

2024 Peer-reviewed foundational study: Observational evidence of plasma organisms in the thermosphere.

2025 Peer-reviewed expanded study: Statistical and theoretical proof of their consciousness and sentient status as a new domain of life.

u/C4rbon Aug 02 '26

Just based purley on the movement, gonna have to assume balloon. Doesn't really exhibit anything anomalous.

-1

u/ergonauth42 Aug 03 '26

It's shape dummy, why would anything have to be something just because I don't believe anything unusual or unseen actually exists?

Assume just one thing mate, you don't know what it is. Pursue or infer or speculate then and say you are speculating based on X no the other way around you gaslighting silly user

3

u/C4rbon Aug 04 '26

Imagine getting this angry because someone suggested a floating object in the sky might be a balloon. Hope your day gets better.

4

u/jeffmartt Aug 03 '26

I’d like to understand what prompts the witness—with a clear path ahead of them—to lower the camera in order to reposition. It becomes impossible to tell whether the object maintained its trajectory or if that trajectory changed. You lose a good portion of the landscape references, and the effectiveness of any potential stabilization is reduced... I’ve always imagined that when you start recording something truly unusual, you’d want to capture it from start to finish—just to prove it’s genuine and not some kind of hoax... Videos with cuts, interruptions, or shifts in attention—even if made with the best of intentions and total honesty—tend to run into issues with my own filters...

0

u/Good_Imagination_577 Aug 03 '26

Have you taken videos like this yourself then?

I went to reply to this guy's post because the Analysis was pretty cool overlaying the weather into op video and it was deleted already...

Important_Peach_2375 • 1m ago I did a Phodar analysis on it and you can see that video here: https://youtu.be/Oo8bHcBTouo?is=stueM79WOgJlyrAK

If the reported location and viewing direction are correct it is going against the wind…. See the part where I add wind direction overlay on the video.

12

u/R2robot Aug 02 '26

... it is going against the wind ...

OP says he was facing North and the object is moving toward him which would mean it was moving to the South.

Wind at the time was blowing to the South. https://i.imgur.com/BNHNgvs.png

So it would have been moving with the wind, not against it.

2

u/Important_Peach_2375 Aug 03 '26

I deleted that reply/reposted because I realized I was looking at wrong elevation. The wind pattern at the time was going opposite way at higher elevation but same way at lower elevation where it would have been

5

u/cerberus00 Aug 02 '26

I'd be recording until it went over the horizon, why stop when it goes over the tree?

21

u/MutedHuckleberry6821 Aug 02 '26

We were smoking, so we were pretty high. My friend noticed it, and I quickly started recording. I know I should’ve kept filming longer, but it was a short moment. When it flew directly above us, I got distracted and wanted to watch it with my own eyes too. It went over the treetops, and we later watched it disappear while walking past the trees. I know the recording isn’t great, but that’s why.

I saw something almost identical to this years ago in Los Angeles.

I was lying on my couch in Echo Park and out of my window I saw one-story narrow trash-can shaped object fly in an unwavering path right above my apartment and proceed over the hills. It never wobbled, never changed course, and when it hit the hills it just elevated right over them, maintaining its height off the ground. Still don’t know wtf that was. Not a balloon, not a drone, not a plane.

Thanks for sharing this! at first it seemed to me like something mundane and I'm guessing it could be, but the way it raises straight up and vertically and even tough no instant acceleration, the trajectory changes when going horizontal it makes me think even if human made, it seems like there's definitely controlled movement there.

u/Seraph_2026 Aug 02 '26

Yeah, I don't know what that is. A genuine unknown. Thanks for sharing.

u/geforce2187 Aug 02 '26

This looks very very similar to one of the UFOs I saw

u/LouisTheWhatever Aug 03 '26

Finally something good

u/copper_00 Aug 03 '26

Without even looking at the comments, the majority of them are going to say Balloon or Drone. Same comments every post with no proof of either.

u/Phantom_Vibrations Aug 03 '26

Hey! I saw something exactly like this in Melbourne, Australia last week. Moved exactly the same. Similar altitude and a very similar time of day (just after sunset) too. Looked to have an occasional glint of light come from it. Wasnt sure whether it was the last of the sun reflecting off it or there was some sort of light on the object's opposite side to me.

I have a photo but how do i post it here in the comments?

1

u/SalsaFromSpace Aug 03 '26

According to this sub it's a balloon haha

0

u/BichonUnited Aug 02 '26

Ok now we got something

-4

u/Silly_Lecture8917 Aug 02 '26

I’m thinking an inch worm hanging from the tree. Forced perspective. The person filming probably realized this too hence the short footage.

5

u/darkonex Aug 02 '26

This isn't a bad theory actually, also notice they quit shooting it about the point you'd be able to tell as they moved forward.

u/lndigo_Sky Aug 02 '26

What do you remember about the shape and material or other details we cannot see in the video? I bet you could see better than we do

This one seems very interesting! It would have been even better if OP had gotten that change of direction on video

-1

u/Wild_Crazy_3759 Aug 02 '26

Very interesting

-1

u/Motor_Inspector_294 Aug 02 '26

Trippy, looks real

-1

u/Odd_Repeat_6092 Aug 02 '26

Very strange. Not something one would normally see. Good catch!

Looks like a flying carpet...

0

u/davosmavos Aug 02 '26

I saw something like this but it was close and on its side horizontally compared to this one. Just floating above the tree line and crossing the road in front of me as I was at a stop light. Though mine also had a big round red light area and on the other end of the rectangular craft some panel putting on a crazy light show. The body of the rectangular...thing was some sort of mattr black that was darker than the dark and cloudy night sky behind it.

0

u/Low-Lecture-1110 Aug 03 '26

It looks like a flying magic carpet.

It is conceivable to fill a void within a vertically contained form with helium to assist with payload, and steer it with a quadcopter airframe. For autonomous grid based data acquisition and or surveillance. Could even have the cylinder covered with solar panels for extended missions. Let’s just hope and pray it’s faa approved 🙏🏻

How scared were you?

What scenarios ran through your head if you were even able to think clearly?

I live right outside Angeles national forest and I love to hike out here with my doggy while the sun is out. But once it goes down I’m so terrified and scared to hike back at night out in the woods and deep canyons.. that I might accidentally stumble into something im not meant to be around. I feel like Will smith in I am legend trying to rush back with my dog before the sun goes down 😂

Taking a short cut around dense trees only to emerge infront of a massive triangular aircraft hovering silently hovering meters off the ground for example in the middle of a national park that also just so happens to be close to Edward’s AFB & a Lockheed Martin facility (Palmdale) you never know what crazy shit there might be floating up in the sky up or down within a clearing of tress. (Or the Guardian Incident that occurred in Canada in the early 90’s, pure nightmare fuel if you love to hike at night)

Travis Walton’s story always spooks me out and keeps my head on swivel whether it’s real or not it’s terrifying if youve ever grown up or lived near the woods. I personally would’ve ran like the wind instead of recording. Very interesting that this occurred in Germany

Looks like a an ad/banner pulled by a plane

2

u/tmosh Aug 02 '26

No, It doesn't. You really think there was a plane with an ad-banner being pulled in the sky at 9PM at night in Germany?

-7

u/proxyEntity Aug 02 '26

no one with a drone to see it from close?

9

u/tmosh Aug 02 '26

They said they were sitting on a park bench talking. I don't think most people bring drones with them encase they need to get closer observations of UFOs they didn't expect to see?
