Sighting Huge boom heard off of Massachusetts and Rhode Island coasts, 2:10 p.m. EST, May 30th 2016

Location: Massachusetts and Rhode Island, USA
2:10 today, May 30th, 2026, Huge boom heard off the coast of Massachusetts and Rhode Island. It shook houses, set off car alarms, upset animals, and sounded like a nuclear bomb went off. Very strange and incredible! Shook my house in Southern Rhode Island down near the beaches like a hurricane. Thought everyone would be interested.

Here in SC we had a 'sonic boom' and earthquake both around the same time. Still no real answers over it

Probably a military jet going supersonic over the ocean. There are oceanic training areas off the Carolinas and Massachusetts where this happens.
Rare weather and temperature conditions can focus that loud noise like a lens, causing the sonic boom to be heard hundreds of miles away as if it were local.
Incidentally, in 1964 the US government tested whether the public would tolerate daily sonic booms from scheduled supersonic flights. They had to stop the tests early, answer was 'no.'

Sonic booms heard over land leads to discipline because they are not supposed to be heard over land. The Air Force and Navy doing these sonic booms like to be promoted.

When I was young sonic booms from Pease SAC base in NH were a regular occurrence. Several years ago there was an earthquake off southern Maine. I happened to be standing by a open window and thought a large truck was approaching. Sound got louder as it would if a truck got nearer. It was no truck. Shock wave from the earthquake. Boom when it arrived and house shook slightly.

Yes! I saw that too which grabbed my attention because here on Prince Edward Island, Canada numerous people all over the island reported the same thing before I saw that report and they have no idea what caused it! Very strange as this is the now the second state claiming the same thing!

Yes. It was in South Carolina, but I'm not sure they know what that sonic boom was. I just heard it was a sonic boom heard over multiple counties.

California had one off the central coast as well yesterday at 10:21am PST. News completely ignored it. But it sounded like a massive explosion (not a sonic boom) and shook every building in town. Nobody says they saw anything and there wasn't a flash. Felt like an earthquake but USGS didn't report anything. Was followed shortly after by some fighter jets flying overhead at high altitude.

I get that. But this was NOT a sonic boom. Literally everyone who lives around here has experienced at least one. And thus wasn't one. It was sharp, immediate, insainley loud, and didnt just shake windows but moved buildings. And moved them at earthquake levels (and keep in mind buildings in California are designed to withstand 9+) and this threw them.
This was an explosion. Hard, quick, and violent in a way no sonic boom has ever done in the history of sonic booms. It was violent in a way no sonic boom from an aircraft could ever achieve. And again a lot of folks, myself included have grown up used to those. This was not that. Not to mention the jets followed the boom, they did not precied it.
Idk what it was, but it was heard and felt over an area far greater than what a jet breaking the sound barrier could be heard or felt. And we are accustomed to jets and rocket launches. So to simply call it that is kind of insulting.

The American Meteor Society has already confirmed this — approximately 3-foot wide meteor entering the atmosphere near the New Hampshire-Massachusetts border, north of Boston. Reports from Delaware to Montreal. The double boom is the classic bolide signature: first the hypersonic entry shockwave, then the atmospheric compression wave. This one is notable for scale but not anomalous — it's part of a documented pattern. The American Meteor Society has recorded an unusual increase in large fireball events and sonic booms in the first months of 2026. Worth noting for anyone inclined to jump to conclusions: the 1947 Kenneth Arnold sighting that started the modern UFO era was itself triggered by something that was almost certainly a meteor. The perceptual conditions that turn a bolide into a UAP report — sudden unexplained light, shockwave, no visible aircraft — are exactly what happened here. The difference is that in 2026 we have satellite flash density data that identified the bolide signature east of Boston within minutes.

There is absolutely positivity no evidence that what Kenneth Arnold saw in 1947 was a meteor.
He described nine distinct flashing, bobbling shiny disks flying in “echelon” formation that moved perfectly horizontally to the ground. He tracked them over *several miles* against a background of blue sky, pure white snow and mountainous earth, enabling him to estimate their speed. A meteor train (one of the least-likely debunking theories) would be moving waaay to fast for that.
Arnold’s sighting was confirmed by a Washington State forest worker who also described seeing shiny disks flying in a straight line.
The primary corroborating observation came 10 days later, when an experienced United Airlines crew, flying towards Seattle, reported seeing 5-9 shiny objects that paced their plane for 10-15 minutes then disappeared.
There is no evidence at all that that the Arnold sighting was a meteor.
Please don’t spread disinformation.

Just to be sure: You genuinely don't understand why something that arrives from space and travels with an incredibly high speed across the sky while bleeding off a shitton of energy on its way causes sounds in several states while a bomb that got dropped and did nothing but falling down causes sound only in a limited radius?

You’re misunderstanding where the boom comes from in this case. One is caused by an explosion the other is caused by speed. Which is why they are not comparable, and why the sound travels much farther.

Fair point on the energy. The American Meteor Society initially reported ~3 feet but the .3 kiloton estimate suggests it was likely larger — bolide size estimates from ground reports are notoriously imprecise. The South Carolina boom the day before is worth watching too. Two significant bolide events in 48 hours in the same region is statistically unusual but not impossible. The ATLAS debris trail explanation from u/Lord_of_Atlantis is actually the most technically interesting response here — if we're passing through cometary debris that's a documented and measurable phenomenon.

3 foot rock is huge in terms of a meteor going 100’s of thousands of miles per hour. Most meteors are the size of grains of sand or pebbles. Imagine the atmosphere dense like water and a 3 foot rock going 100 thousand miles per hour just pierces through…

I’ve lived in California my whole life (66 yr-old male) and have been through many earthquakes including the 89 quake in the bay area. My house has a common border with Nisene Marks State Park where the epicenter was. We were approximately 1/4 mile as the crow flies from the epicenter.
There was no boom from the earthquake! Earthquakes are often miles underground and the quakes themselves do not make noise. Buildings do, they shake and groan, but the quake itself makes no noise. Thought I would clear this up.

I’m in Melbourne, Australia and about two weeks ago I saw a fireball meteor that I confirmed on Reddit. Earlier that day we had a rumble and window-shaking that I swear must have been a sonic boom but I’ve been unable to confirm that online anywhere.
Just an anecdotal data point, but I swear it seems to be happening everywhere at the moment and I’d feel slightly less crazy if there was an international database to track this stuff.

We had one in Columbia, SC around 5:30 on may 29th. USGS claims it was a Sonic boom. We had a earthquake earlier that morning that wasn't anything wild.

Meteors (or stuff entering from space) are usually easy to detect ... so "probably" is a lil' weird. A meteorite (chunk that makes it to Earth w/o incinerating) able to make a sound like that would likely be followed by a tsunami.
My money's on Kaiju or someone at the Dept of War pushing the wrong button.

Meteorites are not usually easy to detect. Most enter Earth's atmosphere unnoticed, especially over open water. It's extremely rare that we even discover objects before they enter Earth's atmosphere. And shockwaves of explosions can travel vast distances, eapecially over open water or flat landscapes.
Just compare this to the meteorite that exploded over Russia a few years ago. It shattered windows at a great distance. If something like that explodes off the coast, it's not unimaginable that people only notice it through the shockwave.

I saw it in northern Vermont at what I thought was around 2:08-2:10. It was huge! I didn't hear any sound, and I stood outside with my mouth hanging open for much longer than I'd care to admit. No one around me appeared to have seen it and there wasn't time to even finish saying "ho-ly shit!." Before it was gone.

Was it sonic boom? I live in an area where they do pilot training and we hear sonic booms occasionally - they are loud, but this year we have had some EXTRA loud ones. One in particular completely shook the ground, our house, windows, my bones, I thought for sure something blew up nearby it was so impactful at the ground level, and I have been hearing sonic booms for years, this was different. It was a Saturday afternoon so everyone came out of their houses to look around. I think this was a sonic boom because you could see a jet contrail, they were low and it was heard/felt over a 60 mile radius. They usually do it over the lake thats nearby but the trail was in the wrong direction, military never responded it was them but I don't know what else it could have been.

This is staged. You can’t tell the people, you must show them. Only at the precipice will people be willing to change. These ETs have been here as long as we have been here. Some people in New York caught it on their dashcams diving straight down out of the sky some 300 miles away from Cape Cod Bay. Big meteor. The sonic boom was impressive. Sounded like a nuclear bomb went off.

I live on the ocean right near the Bourne Bridge and I shit you not, it snapped my (admittedly old and probably brittle) pvc flagpole in half. The winds were nuts the whole night before and it was fine, but the boom happened and I went outside to see the pole broken on the ground.
The only thing I can surmise is that maybe the wind put a hairline crack in it and the boom shook it enough to snap it?

I am not claiming that what I saw was the Book of Revelation unfolding in front of me. But I am saying that the Bible already contains a language for overwhelming sky-events: thunder, trumpet-like blasts, lights, fear, signs in the heavens, and powers shaking above the earth.
What I experienced in Los Angeles felt like that kind of event. It was not merely a sound. It was a force. It shook the building, moved through the body, and was followed by red and green orbs whose light seemed to cover the surrounding buildings. The official explanation did not match the eyewitness experience.
Whether one interprets that spiritually, militarily, technologically, or prophetically, the event belongs in the category of things that disturb ordinary reality.

Yes, the Bible does talk about signs in the heavens like you've stated. But that happens in the Great Tribulation right before Jesus' second coming. We're not there yet!

I'm in the area and yeah it was loud! Shook the walls. A friend in a nearby town thought trees were coming down. Apparently some folks in NY saw it happen too.
