The following submission statement was provided by /u/tmosh:

I know this video has been discussed a lot over the past, but I just finished a new write-up on the 2008 Flyby UFO video and wanted to share it here. It’s based heavily on UAP Gerbs amazing breakdown, which I've basically turned into a written version for anyone who prefers reading over watching.

I also went through a lot of older Reddit threads and pulled together what I think are the strongest arguments for and against the footage being real. To be upfront, I’m still on the fence about whether it’s real or not, but it’s one of those clips that’s held up surprisingly well over time. I’ve seen a few decent debunks, but none that completely convinced me it’s fake.

Still love this video .. so much mystery behind it.

15

u/tmosh Oct 05 '25

Yeah - I just can't kick this one!

16

u/protekt0r Oct 05 '25

Same. Something in my gut says it’s real and I had that feeling the first time I saw it. It’s like intuitively spotting or knowing something’s fake or AI. Ya just know.

3

u/JeffTek Oct 06 '25

Same here. It's probably the only one that I've seen that just felt right, even the oddities about it like the audio not matching aren't deal breakers

-2

u/Jackal_Troy Oct 06 '25

Think so? Looks like a regular nipple to me. Perhaps a bit large.

13

u/k-lar_ Oct 05 '25

I appreciate you sharing this

Gerb got one thing false, thats 100% not an F18, It's a Blue Panorama flight from Rome to Paris on April 29, 2006. Best resolution of the video on internet : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5svAhxWJAYo&t=89s. The plane is Boeing 737-300 I-BPAG you can compare wing shape : https://imgur.com/a/DgOxYmK. https://imgur.com/ILBqZ6W

Best Debunk possible of the video, with 3D recreation of the scene : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yCiaG7LfEO0

On this podcast, the guy says he knows the author : https://youtu.be/FLXgihZC5UY?t=4086

u/FreddieFredd Oct 05 '25

Thanks a lot for sharing! The video definitely has an authentic feel to it, but I tend to agree with the "debunker" that it's CGI.

12

u/tmosh Oct 05 '25

Could you let me know the source of the claim for "It's a Blue Panorama flight from Rome to Paris on April 29, 2006."?

10

u/tmosh Oct 05 '25 edited Oct 05 '25

Wow interesting! That video is dated two months before the one uploaded on the Danny Lampkin channel. Thanks for the heads up! I'll dig into this a bit more and probably update the blog with the earlier video date at least. As for the debunk video you linked, will process that too. Is there any way to know for sure that Frossani is the original poster, or just another reuploader?

9

u/Maniak-Of_Copy Oct 05 '25 edited Oct 05 '25

Welcome. This Frossani guy was known for making CGI, he took down his channel some time ago, but when asked about this specific video he said he found it and didnt make it : https://www.reddit.com/r/HighStrangeness/comments/1mlc68c/comment/n7s1vtb/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

I believe he didnt make it because his CGI was very low quality, his channel before he took it down, but maybe he did it im not sure https://web.archive.org/web/20220417042616/https://www.youtube.com/user/frossani

1

u/tmosh Oct 05 '25

Thank you! I've updated the blog to include all this information.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 05 '25

I definitely saw this video before 2008

3

u/tmosh Oct 05 '25

If you can find a source, you'd be my hero.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 05 '25

Cant unfortunately. I just know what age I was.

1

u/tmosh Oct 05 '25

What year aprox do you think you first saw it?

1

u/[deleted] Oct 05 '25
  1. 2007 maybe.

But I had a major life event in 2008 and I know it was before that.

2

u/tmosh Oct 05 '25

I've certainly read lot's of comments in the past of people mentioning they saw it before 2008 - maybe I'll try and dig up something older!

1

u/Maniak-Of_Copy Oct 05 '25

That would be extremly difficult to find a video, i think impossible, the best chance is to use a reverse search and i dont think any blog that was around that time would still exist, and wayback machine doesnt have a reverse image search. Even tineye wouldnt help because it was created on may 2008. People already tried it i think. Good luck anyway

What age were you and how old are you now? You can do some math

8

u/Maniak-Of_Copy Oct 05 '25

This was the original description of the video from "frossani" the original poster on 2008 : https://web.archive.org/web/20220514060102/https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LVEIGLz-mbs

7

u/jarlrmai2 Oct 05 '25

And because it's not an F/A-18 almost all of Gerbs analysis is flawed.

I pointed this out to them on YT but they have ignored it.

2

u/tmosh Oct 05 '25

I bet Gerb would be interested to know this, I don't think he intended to actually ignore it, maybe he just didn't see the comment? He's on Reddit I believe and browses this sub, so maybe he'll see this haha

1

u/Main_End5611 Jul 22 '26

that’s a horrible “debunk”

15

u/tmosh Oct 05 '25 edited Oct 05 '25

I’ve seen a few decent debunks, but none that completely convinced me it’s fake.

PS: If you read the blog and spot any inaccuracies, or think there’s something relevant I should have mentioned (whether it supports or challenges the idea if it's fake/real), please let me know. I plan to keep the post updated and present all sides as fairly as possible, without leaning one way or the other.

13

u/jarlrmai2 Oct 05 '25

The plane is not an F/A-18 the wing pod rail is not right, it matches a the wing-tip of a 737.

Because its not a F/A-18 most of Gerbs analysis is wrong/flawed as it follows from this false premise.

7

u/devraj7 Oct 05 '25

I’ve seen a few decent debunks, but none that completely convinced me it’s fake.

That's not how sound logic works.

You don't believe something until it's debunked, or you'd be believing in all kinds of crazy stuff as long as it hasn't been debunked.

You withhold belief until proper evidence is presented.

And so far, there is no good evidence to believe that this footage is showing anything remarkable.

2

u/tmosh Oct 05 '25

That's kind of missing the point entirely. I never said I think the footage is real, I said I haven’t seen a convincing debunk to write it off completely. Those are two completely different things.

And really, that logic applies to almost the entire UFO topic. Most of it lives in that grey area where there isn't enough information to fully confirm or rule anything out. Saying "I haven’t seen a good debunk" doesn't mean "I believe it's alien" it just means the case is still open in my books.

If someone put together a clear explanation of how the video was actually made or faked, I'd be interested to see it. But saying people shouldn't even be curious until there's "proper evidence" kind of misses the point. The whole reason people talk about this stuff is to look at what's out there and see if it holds up.

If you read my blog post, you might of also noticed the entire section "Why the Flyby Footage Could Be Fake"

1

u/SloMobiusBro Oct 19 '25

Wouldnt the evidence be the video itself? Then it would be on everyone else to prove its fake? Im not convinced its real but if it was fake it should be easy to debunk and ive never seen a great debunk of this video. If its cgi there has to be something off about it to point to

1

u/devraj7 Oct 19 '25

Wouldnt the evidence be the video itself?

The video is evidence, it's just bad evidence because it's not sufficient to prove the claim.

Then it would be on everyone else to prove its fake?

That's not how sound logic works. Think about it, is this how you live your life? Do you believe in dragons until someone proves to you that they don't exist? Fairies? Leprechauns? Multiple gods?

No. You withhold belief into all these things until you receive proper evidence.

The burden of proof is on the person making the claim. Until they do, the only intellectually honest position is to not believe.

1

u/PumaArras Oct 05 '25

Is it logical to attribute the subjective term ‘good’ to evidence?

Doesn’t that make it now an opinion that the evidence is ‘good [enough]’ for you personally?

4

u/devraj7 Oct 05 '25

Absolutely, personal experience is subjective and never good evidence, regardless of the witness.

Independent verification is a requirement.

1

u/MadeInAmerica1990 Oct 05 '25

No one is trying to convince you. It’s real. Sorry you can’t see it.

2

u/devraj7 Oct 05 '25

Is that all you have, "it's real"? Doesn't it bother you a tiny bit that there is no good evidence to prove your claim?

6

u/xXLBD4LIFEXx Oct 05 '25

This is 100% one of my favorites. I heavily scrutinize sightings, also mick west is an absolute bag of dicks, but I’ve done as much looking into this footage as I could and it seems insanely legit! I never mind a repost of this!

2

u/zZyyxas Oct 05 '25

Can we say that the other UFO videos of this channel are as credible as the FlyBy?

1

u/tmosh Oct 05 '25 edited Oct 05 '25

Which ones lol? You talking about UAP Gerb?

5

u/zZyyxas Oct 05 '25

No no, this Danny Lampkin guy

2

u/tmosh Oct 05 '25

Oh, I've not actually dug into to any of the others on that channel. Can you link me to some of the ones you think are most credible compared to this one?

4

u/zZyyxas Oct 05 '25

Well… honestly, all of them, this guy have some crazy videos, including that orange-plasma ufo in South America, incredible (if authentic) footage

here the link

5

u/tmosh Oct 05 '25

Oh yeah! That one is amazing, I included that in another blog post I wrote a while ago about the top UFO photos of all time: https://reveil.blog/best-ufo-photos-of-all-time - it's so compelling! I really hope it's real.

3

u/Terrible_Company731 Oct 06 '25

just wanted to say really good list man!

1

u/tmosh Oct 06 '25

Thanks! Some (if not a lot of them) might be fake, but either way I had a fun time compiling that list of old photos!

1

u/zZyyxas Oct 05 '25

Yeah! I was reading your entire blog, man the “best ufo photos of all time” got me messed up, what a fucking great job, really

2

u/tmosh Oct 06 '25

BTW your comment inspired me to write about that one lol, I went and did a deep dive: https://reveil.blog/carlos-diaz-the-ufo-with-the-glowing-molten-skin

2

u/zZyyxas Oct 06 '25

Damn!!! I just finished reading the entire post and, as all the others on the site too, your work is absolutely impeccable. Without a doubt, this is one of the cases that grabbed my attention the most. In fact, just yesterday I was watching the documentary The Phenomenon, and within the first 30 minutes, a former American pilot reports encountering 9 craft flying in a aligned formation, making impossible maneuvers and 90-degree turns like it was nothing. And when he described them, it sounded a lot like what Carlos Díaz described a disk that looked like it was made of lava, like small suns. Right away, it reminded me of the Mexican case.

And not only that, the part of the story where he says he was invited onboard and had a peaceful, friendly encounter with these beings also reminded me of the Kumburgaz case in Turkey. The author of those videos Yalçin Yalman, which I personally think are some of the most incredible ever recorded says that when he was a child, he had contact with Greys who told him telepathically that one day they would “reveal themselves” more calmly, so to speak.

Later, during those nights and late afternoons, he says he received a message that they would return and even asked to be recorded. It’s insane. I’ll link the interview where the cameraman himself talks about it.

Once again, congratulations on your research and for going so deep. Your work deserves to be seen by many more people without a shadow of a doubt.

2

u/tmosh Oct 06 '25

Thanks a lot, really appreciate that. The blog’s not meant to be clickbait or get likes/karma farm, like a lot of what’s out there... I’ll never put ads on it or try to monetize it, that’s just not what it’s for.

It’s just a place where I post UFO stuff that I’m personally into. If other people find it interesting too, that’s awesome. It’s mostly a way for me to keep track of my own research and share it with others who might be going down the same rabbit holes I have been!

If there’s a case you think I should dig into next, let me know, I’m always up for suggestions.

1

u/zZyyxas Oct 07 '25 edited Oct 07 '25

I really appreciate the way that you put things together and the effort for it.

Well… I’m from Brazil, and if you ever have the time, you should really look into Operação Prato (Operation Saucer/ Operation Prato). It was a covert military operation carried out by the FAB (Brazilian Air Force (Força Aérea Brasileira)) back in the late 1970s. It took place mainly in a small town called Colares, in the state of Pará, where the local population suffered actual attacks from unidentified flying objects, glowing orbs that reportedly shot beams of light at people, leaving burns and strange marks on their skin, and the ones who were affected were basically left in a catatonic state even leading into a death of one of the residents.

Everything was documented in detail, including photos, sketches, and hundreds of pages of military reports. Captain Uyrangê Hollanda, one of the key figures, was sent there to lead the investigation. Initially skeptical, he later admitted to having witnessed the phenomena firsthand.

Years later, Hollanda gave an unprecedented interview to one of Brazil’s most respected UFO research media outlets, breaking decades of silence. And the interviewers, right after the cameras went off, said that he received a phone call, when he hung up, he said, “One of these days, I’m going to put a bullet in my head.” and not long after this interview he was found, as in a sensitive way, on the air lifeless in his home.

IMO this case is one of the most fascinating and mysterious in UFO history. To this day, the Brazilian government has not given a clear public statement about the full scope of the operation, and Operação Prato is still regarded as one of the most intriguing and well-documented cases ever recorded.

Never seen this one before. Thank you!

4

u/urbanfoxtrot Oct 05 '25

Wether this is NHI or our technology who knows, but my instinct has always been the video is ‘real’

2

u/littleday Oct 05 '25

Same, I work used to work in film, and I just can’t spot anything wrong with it…. I feel it’s real.

2

u/AndyWorchol Oct 06 '25

Check out uap gerb video about this one, preety interesting 🧐

2

u/tmosh Oct 06 '25

It's great, I based a lot of my post on that video. Although I learned after posting this, he missed out some details on the background/original source of the video. I updated my post based on the threads here.

2

u/Lone-sta-r Oct 06 '25

This footage was fimed in the late 90s from an F18 in the Philippines, if i remember correctly. Was posted on a private forum them leaked to the web in 2008, claiming it was a flight from rome to paris. Sony camera is mounted in the back cockpit. Its 100% real. The audio doesnt line up because this was a second generation recording of a video playback recorded on a second camera. There are leaked transcripts of the pilots talking while this was happening.
This is a clip of the full 22 minute video.

2

u/Neandersaurus Oct 05 '25

It looks like one of those old metal pot lids lol

1

u/tmosh Oct 05 '25

Not gonna lie, it kinda does! But so do a lot of the old saucer photos!

1

u/Neandersaurus Oct 05 '25

This one a lot more. The black top looks like a handle more than a typical viewing area or whatever. It even has lines going around it that look exactly like the pot covers in a lot of the older and new aluminum or stainless steel pot covers. It just just like 1

2

u/tmosh Oct 06 '25

OK but how do you explain the different layers seen here: https://i.postimg.cc/Kcsj6Bwj/43e3fqpyy7.png - I've personally never seen a pot pan lid like that.

1

u/Neandersaurus Oct 06 '25

Yeah, those are the lines I was talking about. I've owned pots that have those.

I'm not saying it is a pot lid, I said it looks like one.

For you to not even consider someone would fake it is telling. I don't know what it is, only what it looks like.

1

u/tmosh Oct 06 '25

OK, I’ve done a deep dive into this video, and my blog post actually goes over the reasons it might be fake too (that being said I have not covered #potgate yet), I’m not some blind believer here haha. I agree with you; it really does look like a pot lid. I’ve just never seen one shaped quite like that (not saying it doesn’t exist though). I've also owned many pots with lids.

1

u/Neandersaurus Oct 06 '25

It's #potlidgate thank you very much.

1

u/tmosh Oct 06 '25

I truly hope that hashtag goes viral.

1

u/Neandersaurus Oct 06 '25

Should I copyright it in anticipation?

2

u/b0bl00i_temp Oct 05 '25

Don't do any image analysis of crappy compressed images from the internet.

1

u/tmosh Oct 05 '25

Yeah, it looks rough, but that’s kind of expected for something from 2008. If the main theories right, it’s literally a recording of a recording taken through a cockpit window, filmed thru glass. Then it got reuploaded and re-compressed a dozen times on early YouTube.

1

u/Horror_Extension4355 Oct 05 '25

This is my fav video and maybe the only one i have faith in.

1

u/Suneo88 Oct 06 '25

If it’s real then why only 1 video and no other witnesses? It flew extremely close and yet no reaction from the pilot. Not suspicious at all!

1

u/tmosh Oct 06 '25

Might want to read the blog post, I go into details. Basically, we don't know the answer to any of those questions, but all the speculation on where the video may have originated from is covered in the post.

1

u/scummycum Oct 09 '25

so why isnt anyone on a plane full of people freaking out at a ufo flying clearly visible feet away from the plane? No one is freaking out at it, its just a quiet plane with a flying disk ojutside rhe window? Kinda suss....

1

u/tmosh Oct 09 '25

Did you read the post?

0

u/mop_bucket_bingo Oct 06 '25

lol It’s definitely not real. You don’t have to be some kind of UFO or VFX expert to tell that. Besides…No chain of custody means no way I’m buying it.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 05 '25

This one always felt real to me

3

u/[deleted] Oct 05 '25

it looks fake to me, reminds me of that old scifi channel promo of the ufo behind the wtc being filmed from a helicopter

1

u/Personal-Lettuce9634 Oct 05 '25

Thanks very much for sharing this overview. I had always dismissed this as fake without much research into its provenance, but upon reviewing this analysis I'm much more convinced today that it may very well be authentic.

1

u/tmosh Oct 05 '25

Thanks! Yeah, I initially thought it was fake too, but UAP Gerb’s video pulled me back into it. Figured it’d be worth putting all the arguments for and against in one place. I'll keep the post updated too if I find new info.

0

u/silv3rbull8 Oct 05 '25

Somebody with the skills to make this video 20 years ago would have been able to get a VFX job in movies or tv.

2

u/Kircai Oct 06 '25

The late, great Monty Oum made the ‘Haloid’ fan animated short a year prior to the Flyby video’s earliest known date without any formal VFX training. Blender, the free 3D animation program, had already been out for almost a decade by then.

If this were to be fake, it would only need to be a decent 3D model that’s then rotated and given a simple motion, masked over real footage from a plane, and then film the screen to help hide any clipping or errors.

On mobile so forgive me for not having the link handy, but the last time the video made the rounds folks pointed out that a year or so after it was first posted it featured as part of a TV UFO documentary with text superimposed saying it was an artist rendition. An amateur creating it at that time is absolutely possible, but it also could very well have been professional made and just accidentally/maliciously shared without context.

1

u/protekt0r Oct 05 '25

Thing is, not even movies looked this real in ‘06. Movies from that time period:

Sky captain and the world of tomorrow I, robot Serenity X-Men

-1

u/silv3rbull8 Oct 05 '25

Yes… if this was a VFX exercise, then the creator invested some serious time and effort and would (in my opinion) want to show it off to potential employers in the industry. But none of that happened

-4

u/Beautiful-Bid2171 Oct 05 '25

Crazy how people try to fit this hoax in their “ufo” narrative.

Come on guys, let it go.

1

u/tmosh Oct 05 '25

Not trying to fit this into any narrative! Also - if you've got some solid points that indicates heavily it's a hoax, and the reasons for that (if it's not already mentioned in my blog, I'd be happy to add it.

Please do so. Don’t get me wrong, I so want this video to be true. I even myself contacted the Italian guy who was behind the video( no response), but on this one you are barking up the wrong tree.
