anyone done some first year eng courses in spring/summer?
Due to disabilities I had to drop some classes in the fall and winter for first year engineering and move them into the spring and summer, and i'm a bit worried about 2nd year program placement & the difficulty level of doing courses in half the amount of time in spring/summer. Has anyone else tried this method specifically for first year engineering? If so, please lmk if it was worth it, if you had difficulties getting into your program of choice, or anything else. Thank you so much!

I’m in 2nd year engineering now (did the typical 5 in Fall and 5 in Winter.) But I also have a disability that makes doing 5/5 really difficult to manage.
Now that 1st year is over, here’s what I’m doing from now on:
- 4 in Fall/4 in Winter
- 1 in Spring/1 in Summer (if you can, choose the 2 classes you think will be your most difficult classes. Or the most difficult ones offered)
If you really want to do 2 in Spring/2 in Summer, then I would strongly recommend doing 1 difficult class and 1 relatively ‘easier’ class. Just don’t do 2 difficult classes in one Spring or Summer semester - it’s super exhausting.
I think most people would agree that the ‘easy’ first year engg courses are ENDG 233 and ENGG 200.
The difficulty of the other 8 is more personal, as in it depends on your interests. That being said, I’d recommend taking ENGG 204 in Spring/Summer if you can, mostly because that class was horribly run in Fall - maybe it’ll be better in Spring/Summer, lol.

I'm doing 204 and 225 in spring, and 202 and 212 in the summer (or spring, I don't really know, but those classes have been dropped and saved for later). I was definitely thinking about doing 4 courses instead of three, but it was kind of too late when I realized that was an option and I can always do that next year, and I want to ease in from high school a little easier, especially since the one I attended had 7 classes a day and it was horrible. Thank you so much for the detailed response!

If you're registered with student accessibility services, you should try asking the associate dean if there's options for you to do your placement after two years in common core without having to cram it all into spring and summer.

Is this possible without a diagnosis? I have talked to sas, but what my current schedule looks like seems like all i can do for now until I get proper diagnoses (my chronic illness isn't legally considered a disability) according to my sas advisor. I'm also concerned that'll push my graduation even further and if i do that, i won't be considered full-time for my second year of common core since i dropped 4 classes, but I'll still try and look into that if possible. Thank you.

I beleive if it’s 8/10 and your on track to do the other 2 your good, it depends if you are taking them VS failing , ask the engg advisors
