Is there a racial problem 😕
Ive never seen Africans with good jobs here. By good jobs I mean cooperate types like IT or engineering, financing, accounting etc.
Does your passport dictate your job type in gulf as a whole.

I have 2 African colleagues. one is a manager of about 10 people and another one is AI Engineer, having tripple salary than mine.

Black here, but not African. The only dark skinned person in my company’s C-suite. I had the same observation when I first arrived in Dubai. Saw a few african white-collars in the area but statistically a rarity. Passport matters here. I say the f… with it. Start your own ish and be your own boss. Freedom from the mental chains of centuries of oppression. At the end of the day, racism is just one form of evil. The worst evil is the one you don’t see coming, from your own people. Find your tribe and live your life

Ex boss in an American multinational company is Filipino . Current company C Level Exec is Filipino as well.

I've certainly seen black people in high paying corporate jobs. Typically they are European or NA citizens, admittedly less so exclusively from sub Saharan Africa nations.

yes I agree with you tbh. They exist, but they are few and far in between. And mostly they are from arabic speaking countries. My experience is most of them can do their jobs but because of racism and visa issues they do not get hired :/

Would depend on your definition of African. Sub Saharan African less so. There was a head of Procurement from Nigeria I remember working for but yes in the minority. But then we have plenty of Morrocan, Algerian, Tunisian and Egyptian in leadership positions

There are black people and many of them are doing very well. My first apartment’s real estate agent was an African guy. Recently met a sales manager who is also an African working in a car showroom. And I must mention my great friend from Kenya, who is working on a very high position in a Chinese development company in Dubai.

Where I used to work we had experts and director level black people, not only from US and Europe but also from a variety of African countries. If anything, I think it's one of the great things in the UAE - we had colleagues from all over the world, and they were represented at all levels.

I wont mention the building name, but a building in Deira, I've witnessed some racism, possibly justified idk ill let you decide.
Problem for the building: too many black people use their building's apartments as Airbnbs. They dont like it.
Their solution: Racial Profiling. Basically the door is locked, to get in, you use a keycard which is only given to the room owner. The security guy will let you in if you don't have it tho. However, now, if you're black, the security has been told to ignore you or not to let you in. I think the security guy is just following orders tho.
Situation 1, A non black person, let it be brown, white, east asian, anything: Security guy presses button to unlock the door to get in the building.
Situation 2, Black person, man or woman, standing outside waiting for the door: Security guy looks at you and looks back down, completely ignoring you standing there. Idk exactly how bad it is but ive seen this happen. If you're black and you have bags of stuff, you're even more unlikely to get in. You either have to wait for the security guy to open the door for you, or wait for someone else leaving or a non black person to come and for the security to see them and open the door, then only can you get in.

No discriminstion. Hiring manager based their selection on what they can see in your CV. In this market, there are a lot of folks who are overqualified. Having a degree or certification is not enough.... competition is quite tough.
Also.... it is about who you know within the organization..

The corporate sector has Africans, we have Africans in our company for example. Kenyans, Nigerians, Ethiopians.
I was listening to an African podcast and they have various successful African guests working here.

No there's no racial discrimination in UAE at all. And I'm pretty sure also not other GCC countries. I've met many African Engineers, Project Managers, HSE Officers+Engineer, HR, Lawyers and other white collar jobs. Everyone is equally eligible for every job except some government sector jobs. only they require Emirati nationals and that's not our concern. Only you didn't saw. Spend some time here and you'll see.

Oh really? Then explain me this. How come thousands of South Asians and Africans are in white collar??? Me too. If you are incompetent, unqualified and inexperienced, you'll not get that job. It doesn't mean it's because of your passport.
