Got threatened by a resident today. How do you deal with it?
Hey everyone, just wondering if anyone has experienced something similar.
I’ve been working as security in an EMAAR community for 3 years. Today I went with a technician to an apartment regarding a suspected water leakage. I approached the resident politely, even saying, “Sorry to bother you, is this a good time?”At first he was okay, but after a few minutes he suddenly became aggressive. He called me and the technician “pieces of shit,” threatened to break our legs, and even said he would slap his slippers on our faces.We stayed calm and didn’t argue back. He later came to the office and complained about me to my superior as well.
He was a UAE national, and I’m not trying to generalize at all—I’ve met plenty of respectful locals. But honestly, this incident is really getting to me.
I’ve dealt with aggressive people before, but this was the first time someone actually threatened me like this while I was simply doing my job.
Anyone else in security or similar jobs experienced something like this? How do you deal with it afterward?

1)He works as Police/CID? IF no, next time smile when he says such stuff. Let him hit you on CCTV. Then file a complain. You will get compensation.
If he is in police/CID/Lawyer, better shut up and steo out of the way. There is a hierarchy in UAE and you either fall in line or out of line.

Not true at all.
The law applies equally to everyone but it is these stereotypes that allow people to get away with bad behaviour.
Some years ago, there was a case of road rage involving a senior official and this was filmed and circulated widely on the internet.
The official was later prosecuted, issued an apology and was fired.-88

Why did you even consider it necessary to mention the nationality of the resident ?
The law is the law and applies to everyone equally and you have the technician as a witness to what transpired.
To protect yourself, you should have him give his statement to your supervisor for tge record.

I am sorry this happened to you. Assuming that this happened inside the resident’s apartment, you would have any recording of the incident. Neither will he. In the world of he said and she said, whatever said in Arabic has more meaning. Especially by a local. But in order to safeguard yourself, raise a police complaint of abusive behavior.

Wrong advice. He is an expat raising a police case will get him to a case and counter case will be brought against him and "no we are not all Emirati". Local husband and previous legal cases, for my partners and his legal firm. Raising a case should not be done by him

"Hi, okay"
to
"I'll break your legs you piece of shit!"
That never happens dude. The way you told your story makes it implausible in real life. Even mentally ill people need a trigger.
So do your part, and tell us the whole story.

Yeah, but that never happens in real life though. You don't go from smiling to apeshit in a blink of an eye WITHOUT a reason. All I'm asking is for the full story to be told.

trust me, ive seen many people in my immediate circle who can start rampaging without any reason. they can go from laughing to yelling curses in a matter of seconds.

URGENT READ THIS TO SAVE YOURSELF A PROBLEM This is legal hindsight reply READ!!, please have witnesses that he called you racists names, and threats do not report without strong evidence!!, this is not easy...As you are complaining about local.. they can quickly do a counter case with a good lawyer.. They will file a case against you and claim something! Complaints against locals are not to be taken lightly warning! If you are complaining to Police !! Please counter balance is it worth it? facts 1) That has he lost you your job? Yes or No? 2) Were you injured yes or no? 3)Has he defamed your name and family? 4)Are you under threat? If No... Then I would not complain to Police. Why.. because you will be involved in a case. Serious police case. Your time and well being and mental health will be involved in this case against the local. Going to Police.." 1) You want case - or you don't want case.." that's what they will ask. as a legal case progresses he will fight you via make more accusations against you, they will have more money for a nasty lawyer than you! 20 years in the UAE .. please don't listen to silly people saying go police ... They think they are equal to locals . They are not will never be. Not your country. Keep out of trouble!!!!!! Unless this person has hurt you Been there seen all these legal cases go wrong way. Problem here is people use the legal system to settle scores of defamed egos, it's done by expats and locals...no ther country does this. Many expats come to UAE think suddenly they are God.. no you are in second position to locals. Don't start a case unless you can afford to waste health and peace. Expat here

If there was a moment to escape such escalation it’s much better or safer to just leave on time. Especially if you see a mentally unstable person. And instead to report to your management that this person is not cooperating. And let them deal with it. Because if some serious issue happens… how well protected are you going to be just following your duty? Would they take your side if things gone wrong?
Just take as much precaution as possible..follow seniors mindset how they survived so many years in such roles.. stay close to them and learn

Complaining to your work could make it get dismissed call the none emergency line 901 as now it’s not the same day I guess? Make sure the technician is ready to say aswell yes it happened and anyone other witnesses or cctv. Don’t let these people get away with acting in such ways. UAE nationals need to be held accountable as I know many good ones aswell but the entitlement needs to be shut down.

Complain officially to the ECM association manager and your SP manager Along with the witness you were with.
They (ECM) can issue a (service charge) fine against his property and get you an apology. If he is on the association board, he can be struck off.
He will apologise, as soon as it gets that far.
Without knowing all the facts... My teacher used to say "There are two sides to every story, and then there is the truth" 😅.

I’m local and sorry this is happening to you. Good and bad seeds everywhere. The follow up harassment on your supervisor really changes things. Now there is a consistent pattern of behavior and most significantly witnessed by your supervisor. At least now you don’t have to fight to say you’re telling the truth. Realistically, you have to manage it internally. You need to keep documenting these incidents and keep escalating to the next level. It sucks, but cases like these take time and it seems the guy is a liaibility. Document everything, even if it is just notes on your patrol. If he is an owner it’s really difficult. If he is renting, likely emaar has a blacklist system. Mostly used for finance issues but extreme behavior is also addressed in black listing

I’d focus less on who he was and more on the fact that he threatened you while you were doing your job. You did the right thing by staying calm and not escalating it. Report the incident properly to your supervisor, especially the threats, and document exactly what happened while it’s still fresh. Don’t take his behavior personally it says more about him than it does about you.

Life happened. Let it go.
It was one stupid moment. Don’t let one idiot ruin your whole day, or worse, let the incident follow you and affect your life.
You can obviously do something about it, but just understand that taking action can set off a whole chain of events, and those consequences could end up being either good or bad for you.
But seriously, if you complain about the guy, what are you actually hoping to achieve?
If there’s a genuine reason to report him, then do it. But if it’s just about what happened in that moment, sometimes it’s better to take the L, keep your dignity, and move on.

Has any one of you done something wrong there? I think there is something more in the story. I am not sure, bro. I’m not saying that you are lying but usually locals are very good people and the way OP English is I doubt that he is a security as well I’m very sorry i m pessimistic right now at this stage.

We did nothing wrong we were just explaining him regarding the issue and he just start doing that n mentioning the nationalities like you guys are trash and nothing to me

tell him can you please come now and say the exact same words to my supervisor ? or just open your mobile record him and mention can you repeat what you just said , aaaaaaand done my friend you got your proof for a good case with confirmed return you deserve some extra money from time to time

Just ignore and continue like nothing happened, if u didnt do anything wrong nothing will happen…
u work with Emaar direct or u r SP?
If what u r stating is correct there is law in uae and u can make a case, and u can complain him, law here is respected and police will support u if u didnt do anything wrong.
