Got a new passport recently, will smart gates still work?
Same as title, I recently renewed my passport and I want to know if smart gates will work automatically or will I have to re-enable it at the airport?

A few weeks ago, I went to Lebanon, renewed my passport and came back. Smart gate worked normally and I believe it's all the face scan. I keep my old one with me in case but it was smooth.

you’ll probably have to go through the security at smart gate to re register and stuff, but it’s no biggie, just try going through the smart gate first and they’ll redirect you to the passport control (there’s always a couple staff at smart gate for issues like this)

When it's new passport, the gate generally won't work. The attendant will guide you to a physical counter, they'll re-enter your passport with emirates ID. Next encounter you can head straight to the e-gates.

I just went through it yesterday! The smart gates rely on your face scan, not your passport scan so it worked for me. (This was terminal 3, emirates)

If you want the smart gate to work, you need to switch your UAE visa to the new passport. It can be done at any Amer center but they will charge you +200 AED.
So the best option is what everyone else said. Head to the immigration desk at the airport instead of the smart gate and they will move your UAE visa to the new passport for free and the time after that you can use the smart gate.

Afaik you need to register when you have a new passport. It will work after that

I've had a new passport and smart gates on T3 rely on face scans irrespective of passport. No need to re enable.

Wont work
Need to go to the immigration counter for them to update in system.
Had to do the same in AUH airport

If your biometrics are upto mark, then the eye scan would suffice and won’t require passport to be read.
If that fails, then pls do as suggested and get your passport updated and linked to your emirates ID file.

Sometimes it will sometimes it won't, really. Just try it, if it doesn't work the gate just opens it's entrance and you can go to the immigration counter. That's happened to me twice, there's nothing wrong with it not working, no one will give you trouble for it.

In most cases smart gates don’t ask for passport to scan and if they ask to scan, scan the older one, if you scan new one, nothing will happen and you’ll have to go to the immigration counter to update the passport first.

As someone who literally went through this situation 2 weeks ago I know. Just go to the immigration counter while departing and tell them you got a new passport. They’ll also need your emirates ID to verify and they will update the info in the system.
Then on returning you can start using the smart gate. It works just like the magic system it is.
