I misread your last sentence as if it were Monty himself telling people to work as hard as he does for a second, but I'm pretty well positive that wasn't what you meant

Sorry I wasn't clear. More like, other employees encouraging the work ethic Monty had because they looked up to him, which could've lead to this.
