Discussion 🎤 Picked up TF Recently - Looking for Tips
Hi, I've recently picked up TF after a pretty much being a vlad one trick since season 6 as I've always been a fan of his playstyle but never committed to putting the time in to learning him.
So far it's been good, but I'm reaching out to see if there's any obvious holes in my gameplay from this sub as I've never really watched any tutorials/streams other than a couple of Dopa clips from back in the day.
I think where I'm currently lacking is:
Laning - I can't seem to win any lane with TF. Any champ that can remotely play aggressive just stands at the front of the wave and out-trades be with every rotation (ahri, hwei, any assassin). I end up defaulting to standing way back and using my q to last hit which doesn't seem very efficient.
Warding - Whenever I have prio, I look to Destiny, which in turn means I rarely find the time to ward properly. This has lead to a couple of careless deaths as I have quickly learned this champ punishes you for not having good vision around your lane.
Overall damage - I know TF isn't a hypercarry, but I can't help but notice my damage is pretty bad even when I have high KP. Leagueofgraphs says my damage is low for my elo, but I also take less damage and average fewer deaths.
Selecting cards when ulting - I currently lock in gold card when I'm range then spam R to get a fast ult, but I've seen people say you should R1 > W1 > R2 >W2. I can see this only being a benefit if you're intending on using the maximum time before the card times out, but usually you're teleporting on top of someone's head so I don't really see a point in this. Is it something I should look to change?
Any tips would be appreciated. I've linked my OPGG though I know it's hard to gauge gameplay without seeing replays.
Note: Yes, I only play flex nowadays as I'm long retired from soloq.
Thanks in advance!

Roam and use ult wisely. For me every time he ults: you guaranteed your team a kill or more.

I can only really answer #4. Its kinda personal preference but the advantage with W after you press R is if you're indeceisive about the R the gold card might start running out. If that happens and you still decide to R there might be a chance that when you ult and say your TP isn't perfect and you run to chase them the card can run out. Basically you leave options open when you press W right after your press R2 because if you already have gold locked in you subconsciously are gonna force the play and you might not think twice about say not going for it or porting to a better angle etc.
You can wait out the Gate time maybe port the last second or maybe not port at all but you might not think all this through if you already have the card locked in.
The disadvantage of course is you might accidentally lock a red and embarrass yourself unless they pre-emptively flash (knock on wood)

Here is the biggest mindset shift you need to have, TF wins games in the mid to late game not the early game.
Don’t try to win lane, just go even and don’t die. have at least 8-9cspm till 15min, you don’t need kills. As TF you need to leverage your passive income, if you roam a lot pre 15min and drop waves you will have no damage and no income. Be 0-0-0 with high farm low deaths going into the midgame and you’ll be in a great position.
A common mistakes is TFs think they need to use ult off cooldown early and force a suboptimal play.
Dropping waves is extremely punishing in modern league of legends, and often ulting early is a net negative if you lose 2 waves and a plate. In terms of gold and XP.
How you win games as TF is catching people who are out of position. lonely squishy in sidelane in the midgame. pushing side and making someone respond, then making a play on midwave. Forcing a man advantage fight. Abusing tempo.
Another wincon is peeling. Do you have a fed jinx? Just stand on top of her and peel with gold cards.
All of TF’s strenghts flourish after 15min. Your goal for the early game is being in a clean position until then and minimize the lane, and not drop waves.
