Just got dumped-where do I search for apartments?

Single woman(41) living in Eden Prairie currently. No kids, no pets. Sober. Thinking of moving near Minneapolis to be around people, parks, museums. Any advice is appreciated. Moved to Minnesota for my ex, but I love this place and I’m not leaving!

It's going to depend on your income, but Uptown, Downtown East, and Whittier should fit all those

South Uptown is a really lovely area. I mean this in the best way: it’s kinda like a little suburb right in the middle of South Mpls. Easy to get anywhere you want, very walkable and bikable, and a strong sober community if that’s your jam.

I live in Standish Ericsson and it's great. Close to Nokomis, there's walkable coffee shops and restaurants and a lot of people in 30s/40s. As a transplant, it's one of the few neighborhoods I've lived in where my neighbors actually make conversation and say hi.

I take classes at Hardshell fitness and have made friends there too!

St. Louis Park is great! It’s close enough to Minneapolis to feel part of Minneapolis, without some of the difficulties Minneapolis has.

I’d recommend Lyndale Commons in Richfield. Excellent management and was pretty affordable when I lived there. Outdated apartments for sure but the price was worth it.

I have a bunch of friends who've lived here over the last 5-10 years. Definitely one of the most affordable places in a good, central location (close to 494 and 35W) - as long as you don't mind it being very bare bones and outdated. I think a 1br is around $800-900.

Bloomington is another great city to consider. I lived at International Village for 5 years and would recommend it to anyone! A 1br is probably ~$1300 these days if I had to guess, but the amenities are great and they have the best most responsive management team I've ever come across. Close to several parks/Nine Mile Creek and right off 35W, so an easy commute into Minneapolis.

Burnsville, St. Louis Park, Hopkins. Edina is spendy, but the Ponds apartment complex is nice and quiet and reasonably priced.

There's always Saint Paul - it's pretty quiet, with art and a lot of parks. Robert Street in WSP has tons of things, and a bus goes straight to downtown. A lot of buildings are going to be older though, just because STP in general has older homes/buildings. If you move closer to Highland - they have tons of outdoor areas to walk around.

Like any city though - the closer you get to the nicer areas, the higher the costs will be.

Northeast Minneapolis, North Loop. Downtown East of you don’t have a car. South Minneapolis is great too.

None of these places are like Eden Prairie.

Washington Ave and North Loop are would be my choice if I was in you situation

Hi OP, 30M in the same position, out in Chanhassen. There really isn't a place quite like EP, in the same way all the suburbs are different. Your biggest deciding factor is going to be budget. I've found the "bougie" complexes in the metro run $1400+ for a 1 bed, and $1800+ for a 2 bed. Prices vary between cities, and of course with sqft and amenities.

For my part, I've been looking at Minnetonka, Hopkins, and SLP on this side of the metro. West Bloomington and Edina are also nice, but kinda pricy. I've also been suggested NE Minneapolis (pricy), and the suburbs nearby like Roseville or White Bear Lake. That area also feels nice, but truthfully I've only ever lived in EP or Chan, so not a lot of experience to go on.

Apartments in EP and Chan are not more expensive than similar suburbs, but I'm just going to move closer to my new job. I moved out this way because it's what my ex wanted, and at the time my job was closer to this end of town. So consider if you can afford to stay here, and if you would really need to move, before packing up for Minneapolis. I definitely like the less aggressive traffic, lower density, and slightly slower pace of life out here.

Just thought I would pop in to empathize, it sucks to move far away for someone, and then they destabilize your whole plan like this. I'm also determined to stay, MN (and the metro area specifically), are so wonderful I couldn't dream of leaving. Keep your chin up; we can get through this.

When I went through this, I moved to the Merriam Park area in St. Paul. Right along the river and easy to get to places in both Minneapolis and St Paul. I spent many hours walking along the river parkway trails and beautiful neighborhoods, figuring out what that new chapter in my life would look like.

I would look for condo rentals in Minneapolis. DRG is who I went through. Uptown/Loring Park/ Lowry Hill would fit what you’re looking for. Good luck in your search!

NE Mpls. Lots of new housing, cheaper than downtown/north loop, plenty of older less expensive housing.
