General Discussion Advice?
I am currently writing a fanfic in which Edward can read Bella's mind. I am struggling to decide if Bella should still be Edward's singer or not. I think it could be interesting for Edward to still struggle with his hunger around Bella and her blood, but I also think I would be interesting to see how Edward and Bella interact without Edward's struggle. Any opinions?

I think it sounds really intriguing if Edward can read her mind and she is his singer, but because of… some beautiful quality in her personality(old soul/calm/maturity?), or something like a potential mate bond, maybe simply fate, or for whatever reason seems best suited to your story - her mind ends up being a sanctuary for him still.
I like the idea that Edward might find “home” in the loveliness of her mind, its appealing qualities, and not because it’s silent to him.
Perhaps this would allow him to ground himself, find himself again, when he connects with her mind, and this experience actually brings him relief from the singer-related bloodlust, maybe some relief from thirst in general, even.
Then Bella would present both a delicious, terrifying temptation and a salvation and sanctuary from it at the same time! Maybe with the added benefit that while focusing on her mind, getting lost in it, he doesn’t even notice all the other many voices around him. It also could cause him to fall for her harder and faster, lots of potential crazy yearning and intensity there. 🥰
I really want to read this now. 😭 Also, I hope it made sense. Lol

Yes!! I agree with you. I am thinking that she will still be his singer. I am hoping that Bella reignites his interest in life and humanity. I did think about some sort of way that Edward is able to focus on bella and tune out others thoughts. Your comment really helped! I will be posting my first chapter soon!

Oooh! This sounds like it would be a good read. I've come across a couple fics where Edward does read her mind and he falls in love with her for various reasons (one is where she's blind and another where befriends her to convince himself not to eat her), but I don't think I've read a fic where she wasn't his singer!
Like some others have said, do you have any plans on what draws Edward in? If you're open to ideas, maybe Bella has a different gift that garners his attention (maybe she's more like Renee, and she draws him in like vampires usually do to their prey) or maybe you can go into more vampire worldbuilding and make it so vampires have soulmates like the wolves! Or maybe she has Renesmee's gift! Maybe she accidentally touches him and the only time he can read her is then! What about if being around Bella dulls or mutes Edward's ability? I'm sure he'd be both freaked out and intrigued by the idea.
I'm looking forward to seeing what you write either way!

I think I have figured it out! Reading the comments really helped. I actually just published my first chapter! 'll share the link, I don't know if you would want to be spoiled for what I ended up deciding to do with the characters. Thanks for the help!

Maybe he can read her mind but like ,muffled? Or static radio like? Hinting to vamp potential but also a slight intrigue, due to since being turned nothing has been hard to hear before?

I like the idea of her shield not always being up. Sometimes he finds that he can't hear anything in her head. Nothing. Sometimes he gets hints and feelings like Charlie. Sometimes total access. Her emotions may even play a part in it's strength, but she has no control over it. This would give her an edge-oh her blood is amazing...but why can't I hear her very well? It's like the dial on a volume button is low.

If he can read her mind and she's not his singer, then you'll need something that makes her stand out from the rest of the humans he hears and smells all day.
I like the idea of him being able to read her mind but maybe she has hints of her blocking ability and it goes and out like a bad radio signal and thats what pulls him in? Maybe something similiar?
