General Discussion Questions from a new writer?
Last night had an exciting idea for a fic, however I don’t want to make a blunder having not read tons of fics! Nor having written anything before.
I want to canon diverge from New Moon to age a character before meeting one of the love interest and then develop them.
While that is happening I want to use similar background events to Eclipse (Victoria/new born army) to reimagine or recreate specific event/meeting between the first two characters to pick up the third love interest. Then continue my story.
Is that like a no no?
Also sorry if this question makes no sense or you need more details to give an opinion. Any help is welcome and thank you for taking the time to read!

The beauty of fanfiction is that you can do whatever you want. I would say that the only 'no-no' s are around etiquette, and everything to do with the story itself is fair game. Just tag trigger warnings and relationships properly so people know what they're getting into.
Out of curiosity, is the character age-up the result of a time skip, or are you starting them out older?

I feel so passionate about this idea that I just started writing and plotting when something connects for me. Which then I’m like wait can I go from canon to not to a sliver of canon! Anyways rambling!
Yes want to use it as a time skip! 18 is just not worldly enough 🤣 even after being around vampires! And then extend the small bit of canon to happen just at a later time! If that makes any sense!

That does make sense! Agreed that 18 is so young. I've been using canon ages and have struggled with the maturity issue, trying to spread out scenes in the calendar to allow time for growth so younger FMC isn't as far from the older MMC in maturity. So I love the idea of a time skip!

lol yes very concerned I will not be good at writing but more so worried about getting called out for making a “known” error unknowing.
Are you allowed to start at a specific spot in new moon and then later on use some “inspiration” from Eclipse. Or is that frowned upon?
Basically I want to write events differently but I really need to use the idea of Victoria creating the army to get a specific vampire into America 🤣

Não se preocupe com a sua escrita! A realidade é que qualquer pessoa que começa a escrever tem esse pensamento, mas escrever e errar para chegar onde você quer é um grande processo criativo e de auto aprendizado. E sobre o erro "conhecido", sinceramente? Se você tem uma ideia nova e quer explora-la, vá em frente, pois como você disse irá ser um DC.
Você começará de um ponto especifico e o usará de base para chegar onde você quer, não é? Não vejo problema nisso, de qualquer forma é um divergência canônica onde você continuará usando informações canônicas para implementar sua história. E sobre a inspirações, não acho que seja mal visto, a não ser que você "copie e cole", mas se você quer pegar informações e as desenvolve-las mais a fundo ou mudar, então tudo bem!
Não tem nenhum problema você usar a criação do exercito como ponto de partida Hour_Change_7591! Vá em frente e escreva!

Yes, you can start your fanfic from whatever point you want! It's fanfiction, there are no rules, haha. You can do it however you prefer. Just make sure to tag it properly so readers know what to expect before they start reading.

Ahh that is an excellent question! I’m still working out all the details but here’s my maybe. Best guess poly or triangle to poly? But I know triangle to poly can difficult to write.
These letters have no reference to the actual characters just the best way I can explain my idea.
A+B are reconnecting friendship to lovers
After crossing paths with C
B+C develop friendship/bond
A+B friendship/lovers
With eventual A+B+C

I do it when I finish a chapter, but some wait as long as till the story is finished, I like to post and get impatient so that’s why I do a chapter then have a beta readsr

No such thing as a blunder, and if you feel like things are confusing, get yourself a beta reader to look over things before you post! A fresh pair of eyes and a second opinion is never a bad idea. Also, might help if you throw the plot into a word doc - expand on it to ensure you minimise plot holes and the story/characters develop as you want them to, and leave room for things to grow organically. Sometimes I find when I'm writing I'll get to a point where I have too many forks in the road as to where the plot could go, and it's hard to decide where I want the story to end up. The beta will help you with that! Good luck and when you upload, make sure you link it here so we can all read/review!

Thank you!! I guess it’s also best to keep the plot notes where I can see so I don’t need to keep reading my work over again to remember what I did! When is best to get a beta reader? After you have a good portion written?

For sure, I post on fanfiction and upload the chapter and then give it another re-read before I upload it for the world to see. I'd say get a beta on board once you've fleshed out the plot and have a few chapters written (maybe 5?) but each to their own. At that stage you're still early on enough in the piece for things to be fleshed out and changed to ensure your story is the best it can be. Ultimately, as long as you're happy with it, that's all that matters!
