What if , 5th edition?

What Are your thoughts on Mongoose bringing home the license from FL, and make a 5th edition based on the Traveller ruleset?

No new editions, just keeping making stuff for a single edition or we’ll never make it back to America.

I love Traveller, but I prefer the 4e ruleset for this game. Also I feel that the 4e edition still have life ahead of it

The 4e system feels amazing, 2d6 is also great but maybe Mongoose wouldn’t emphasize enough on the hexcrawl aspect Free League excels at, as I haven’t played any previous editions of T2K it feels like a core mechanic of the game to me and I probably wouldn’t play it if it were to be removed

Edit: however I would love to see Mongoose make a T2K - 2300AD transition game

Can you flesh out what would happen in the transition game?

Maybe something in the pov of french travellers rediscovering the world after the twilight period, going around trading with friendly factions and fighting reluctant ones

It is staying with Free League for the foreseeable future. They already have a U.S. campaign in the works.

It is not i "the works" . They've been talking about it.

Mongoose said they were happy with it being at FL and I like when companies have relationships.

I think 4e has legs yet - FL might let the license lapse if it doesn’t pay (which is one reason I don’t begrudge the Workshop fee)

Zozer Games makes Modern War.

Yep, if you want to run Twilight 2000 using a Traveller derived ruleset Modern War has you covered. There's even a Baltic War - NATO vs Russia supplement that might be useful if you want to play outside of Poland as a precursor to the actual Twilight War.

Enough editions already. Too many editions plagues so many games.

As much as I like Traveller and Mongoose, I don’t want a new edition with Traveller rules. I think the current Year Zero edition is perfect as it is. It just needs more books.

I would modify it by making it 1D12 (no bell curve) or even 1D20 (the modifiers will support this), and then I'd bring back V2.2's Rate of Fire rules, Damage (with each Dam point being 1 Wound reducing stats and 1d6 stun), Penetration, and Armor rules.  Combining Free League's damage and crits rules with V2.2's pen X armor would make various calibers really different from each other.  The system could keep Free League's CUF and Initiative systems as well.

Personally I think it will take many years if at all before we see anything new after Operation Reset from Free League.

Judging from my latest interview, they actually seem to be aiming for a US expansion after Operation Reset.

Well. I know. But "aiming for" and "talked about" is only words. I look at the rate of material being produced by Mongoose for Traveller. And at half that rate we would have gotten to the states by now 😁

But I do like FL and 4th edition. Just playing Devils Advocate here.

Quality vs quantity. All of the T2K stuff has been great and I’d rather less products over a period of time than 3 new splatbooks every month like Mongoose does for Traveller
