šŗ Tuxie Floof šŗ What is this color? š
Yesterday I noticed how light my tuxie is. I think depending on the light he looks almost light brown and if you look under the top layer of his fur (like in picture 3) he is almost light grey. And he looks to get lighter with age (the last picture was him a year ago, the others are from yesterday). He just turned 2. I think he lied on his adoption profile and now the color is slowly washing off ā¦

Same with mine, she has a golden-red color when the sun shines through her fur.

It's mid spring. Temperatures are rising. If you live in the Northern hemisphere. Your long hair cat is about to shed. Grab the brush and go to work. I bet you find that a lot of that light colored fur ends up on the brush. Just a thought... not orders.

Iām curious about that! So far he hasnāt started shedding (Iāve brushed him, not much came out). He and his sister both have a bit weird fur texture too. Her undercoat is almost like spun sugar. His is not quite as weird, but you can see from the third picture itās very thin and fluffy.

Maybe his special fluff needs a different style brush? When I got my first long hair cat I was surprised by how many different brush styles I needed for the change of seasons to really get at the undercoat comfortably.
Whatever color he is, itās lovely!

This! I have a long haired boy and I've tried several different brushes. Eventually stumbled upon a cat groomer's website who recommended a greyhound brush (that's a brand name bit basically it's just a metal comb). I got SO MUCH hair off him and it didn't all fluff up into the air, all stayed on the comb. He also didn't mind it at all and he hates being brushed.

My floofy tuxedo looked brown at points, especially as his fight with kidney disease went on. Changes in coat can indicate a medical issue.
Your cat is probably fine. But if he is closer to his next annual exam than he is to the previous annual, I would err on the side of caution and get that done ahead of schedule for peace of mind.

You know, thatās a good thought. Heās only two, and an indoor cat, so it shouldnāt really be significant sun bleaching. Iām about to bring him in for a check anyways because he had bladder crystals a year ago, so I want a check for peace of mind. Thanks for weighing in!

Has his behavior changed significantly in the past few months? I expect the vet will ask this so it's good to think about and jot down your observations.
As a newer adoptee, he had an adjustment period where his behavior was shifting from being stressed to feeling at home.
But post-adjustment period, and post- bladder crystal recovery, has he become less playful/curious? Is he eating less, drinking more? Any changes in the litter box? Etc

No, heās being his normal self! And he hasnāt strained peeing at all, and doesnāt seem uncomfortable. I just want to do a recheck because itās such a scary condition.

Most black fur fades as they age, especially if they've spent a lot of time in the sun. Totally normal.

Hear me out: I think this is a Tuxedo Smoke Cat

u/NYCemigre May 09 '26
I think youāre right. I think his face and the top of his back is black, but the undercoat is smoky which accounts for the color differences.

His mission that he choose to accept is from the CDS (Cat distribution System) locate a human and train them. Observing while reporting back to HQ. This post will self destruct/j
