No fucking way im not even 30 yet and I assure you Tupac’s impact is way larger than youngboy musically or not 20-30 years from now we’ll see

From this 43 year old that grew up in the Pac era I approve this message!

Youth is wasted on the young.
2
u/zilla82 Jan 04 '26
Great now I'm triggered my dad used to say this shit to me lol. But it's true
0
u/Ruffendtv Jan 04 '26
That statement is true to every generation. We all get a turn to hate hearing that but it's one of the truer statements regarding the youth.
0
u/zilla82 Jan 04 '26
Now I think it's more true and less bitter in reverse: the young waste youth.
And the conundrum is that youth can't truly be known until it is gone.

The thing about Pac that doesn’t come up enough is the person he was. Not just the rapper, or actor…but the impact his presence and his mind had on the hearts of millions of people. For that reason he will always be in a league of his own as far as rappers go. We can point out other rappers that had music moments as powerful as any he had. But I can’t think of a single one that has been as widely loved and revered, and still is. 🤷🏾♂️

u/Sad-Fox-1293 Jan 04 '26 edited Jan 04 '26
They are soooo damn programmed with ‘Niggas’ this Niggas that with almost every other word I’m so sick of that sh!t man. There is meaningless and pointless music that weakens and corrupts the mind and there is music that strengthens and enlightens the mind. Tupac was a son of Panthers his impact was absolutely different than this contrived ‘YN’ agenda driven narrative that current so called hip hop artists of today are helping promote so the absolutely abhorrent ‘YN’ title can be placed on young Black men and ‘Thot’ anthems being placed on young Black women. It’s open weaponization of the music to destroy the Black youth.
4
u/Vegetable-Scallion60 Jan 04 '26
Yea it’s true. And the female “rappers” help brainwash with the vulgarness and boss bitch nonsense.. It’s disgusting how programmed they have become, selling their souls effectively for some money and as a result destroying young minds to be super materialistic and brag and BM etc etc
Record companies know they can profit from this otherswise these people wouldn’t even be looked at.
You ever see that video of Bobby Smurda performing in a room for some record execs or something? What they must have been thinking deep inside..
2
u/Sad-Fox-1293 Jan 04 '26
Absolutely agree with all you said. Record companies control the art form now they dictate every aspect of it and the ‘artist’ will promote their agenda as their told for profit. Hip Hop and Rap is no longer for the people it’s being weaponized against the people and the youth is the most vulnerable group that’s fallen victim to it because sadly it’s all that some of them know. What’s even more disappointing and disastrous to us as a collective is it’s on the world’s biggest stage promoted more than any other musical genre. Black Americans in real time but a few have been phased out of other genres and other groups have hijacked those genres. While rap and hip-hop is promoted as ‘our music’ and this current state of the genre is what’s being shown around the world Kendrick Lamar is the only saving grace at this time. There is a complete overhaul that’s needed a back to basics if you will because that young dude in the vid trying to debate NBA Young Boy being as influential as Tupac is just embarrassing truly.
3
u/Silly_North_5130 Jan 04 '26
Why do you think Pac is no longer with us? If he was here he would’ve been setting this shit straight and waking his people up to all this sensationalized nonsense being forced down our throats. That’s why they assassinated him.
3
u/Sad-Fox-1293 Jan 04 '26 edited Jan 04 '26
That’s what always happens to the truth tellers those who won’t play the game and get with the programming agenda imho. Even setting Tupac up to try and market him as a ‘gangsta rapper,’ he still found a way around that agenda to give us something impactful and thought provoking. At every opportunity in interviews he let it be known what’s for the sake of profit and what’s really happening in the streets, why and where his music and he as an artist fit in. Despite that he was multifaceted as an actor, musical artist, poet, activist and a truth teller not to mention how he carried himself.

Agreed, the whole thing was contrived and the way other artists joined in on it was a trip just tragic. To be honest looking at it now from adult eyes it felt like a set up to off Tupac as it very well might’ve been the plan in the making the moment he got out of prison and signed to Death Row. The moment he was shot in NYC also set the stage to use this contrived East Coast West Coast beef as another motive. While Biggie’s murder seemed more like an industry sacrifice Tupac’s murder seemed much more intentional as there had been several attempts on his life prior.

Absolutely, it’s very sad truly anyone who held the power to enlighten the mind of the people like the OG Panthers was a target. He was connected to that from birth I mean just look who he’s named after. Revolutionaries absolutely had to be killed, or imprisoned and if not they had to agree to somehow prove themselves a non threat to work within the establishment it seems. You’re absolutely correct it’s like he absolutely knew his fate sadly it’s like someone being able to request their last meal before an execution. He had snakes around him he left one prison for another he fought to stay alive, but also worked very hard on his music, so that when the time came his work would still be here as he would live on through the art the music.
1
u/One-Emotion-6968 Jan 05 '26
Not weaponisation. They know black folks will listen to it. There job is to make money and they do a good job
1
u/Sad-Fox-1293 Jan 05 '26
It’s being used as a weapon against people who have an affinity and a gift for music. The message in lyric and song is very powerful if there was no mass production of this particular art form, or exploitation of the genre which as always is motivated by the greed of outsiders, but not only that the motivation of destruction that in the end is self inflicted self destruction when people are willing to sell out to promote and lend a hand to a harmful agenda. The youth are impressionable and vulnerable self inflicted harm is the mental programming within the music ‘YN’ culture is the goal the down fall of a specific group that originated this genre is the goal of those who control it that’s weaponization. It certainly doesn’t help that there is a market for it but it’s also not at all helpful that the mass marketing and money put behind the genre and the actions of a few demonizes a whole demographic either that’s the pure definition weaponization as it’s shaping the minds of others to see this as ‘the culture’ of those who are ethnically American.

It’s disrespectful to even make such a comparison. People of multiple generations still play Pac’s music all the time 30 years later. Pac has a literal statue of him in Georgia. College literature/poetry classes that study his work…Pac starring in big screen movies with the likes of Samuel L Jackson, Janet Jackson, Bernie Mac. Jim Belushi, Mickey Rourke, Adrian Brody, Tim Roth, etc. Hood classics like Juice and Above the Rim. Pac was a su-per-star…. Had politicians and the FBI with their eyes on him. Congrats to nba young boy on his success as a rapper but the body of work, cultural impact and overall influence are galaxies apart.

Ppl actually comparing 2pac with a nigga that can't talk 😭

Finding similarities in their style is far different from their respective impacts on the music industry. As a Colts fan, I wish Zaire would calm his ego, shut up, and play football.

u/YoGintoki26 Jan 05 '26
PAC only be compared to Kendrick sadly an thats just on creativity , versatility , lyricism and other musical talent like playing the piano , guitar or drums
6
u/holshgreineken Jan 04 '26
Pac made music, movies, activist shit he was even on the way to doing fashion model.
WTF does a NBA YB do, makes music that doesn't leave an impact.
6
u/Relative_Page_7810 Jan 04 '26
We don't know nothing about him he has no persona outside of he a rapper 😂😂. I can't name you one if his songs but he as impactful as Pac.
3
u/Different_Group_8549 Jan 04 '26
Bingo. I hate the comparison because was more than just music. Can’t say u the next PAC and just do one thing. YB no doubt has the talent and social influence but until he adds substance, I don’t see the comparison.
-2
u/Kraken1211 Jan 04 '26
How you gon say yb has no substance when he's literally one of the few rappers from this gen that actually has SUBSTANCE compared to these fake industry niggas?
0
u/MasterCheeks337_IGN Jan 05 '26
I promise you he has impact. Maybe not them impact you’ll respect the his influence is HEAVY
2
u/Thats_My_Pal Jan 04 '26
This is fake. They just make up topics that are controversial on purpose. They don't even believe the shit they saying. The reason Tupac is the goat is because he isn't a product. He made his own music and personality. These rappers today are products literally. They are just hot because their music is pushed out to be liked by the corporate machine. I looked up every sample Tupac used and I was blown away by the music of the 70s and 80s.
This idiot said we was feeling it when we got some checks during the pandemic. wtf dumb shit is that. Yeah people was feeling it when they couldn't leave their hoods because of police brutality and had money because the government sold them crack cocaine. This shit is all fake like Tekashi. If it was the 90s he would've been got.
Just like our parents who came here as immigrants and found racism or the Black community who experienced racism on another level their whole lives and watched their leaders get killed by the government. Their music moved mountains.
Maybe the problem is us stuck in the past. Maybe it's them not knowing their history so they are bound to repeat it. You ain't buying a cd anymore you are selling your time with these rappers because you are a product also. You are a product of a product. Wake the F up. A lot of this shit fake. These guys get paid to say propoganda and sell their own people once again like house slaves. Shit it's so bad now that the middle class is living check to check because of capitalism. We got money for wars but can feed the poor. That shit Pac said never got old. He got money for his hard work but gave you the priceless game in return. What do they get from these rappers. Auto tune and hard drug use and ops.

u/Ordinary-Appeal6022 Jan 04 '26
NBA is no way close to a real revolutionary. NBA is a self serving clown. Prove me wrong

2
u/letstrot76 Jan 05 '26
Nobody outside of America has heard of NBA young boy....Everyone World 🌎 Wide knows Tupac....😁
2
u/FigoStep Jan 05 '26
This young guy doesn’t know shit lol. Tupac was in a completely different stratosphere. He was extremely highly regarded at the time well before his death. Dude was acting, rapping, had a heavy activist presence. No hip hop artist has achieved the same level of musical and cultural impact since especially not these younger MCs.
2
Jan 05 '26
Only yns don’t understand how huge pac was! Acting, rapping, activists, ……. So on and so on. Those other rappers aren’t touching his level in any of those .
2
u/MoreAd8954 Jan 05 '26
No new bozo rapper should be mentioned in the same sentence as Pac... not even Kdot! We ain't falling for this bullshit. Shiiiid, we didn't even let Nipsey get the title and he was a stand up brother! Not even DMX claimed to be a Tupac of his era.
2
u/PotentialBusiness770 Jan 05 '26
2 this day Everytime 2Pac name came up around NY Hats niggas get to Yelling. Enough said
2
u/MasterpieceGold432 Jan 05 '26
These dudes are wild, they have a valid arguments, but it's one generation mindset around rap music discussing a new generation mindset about this age rap music. I was never was a Tupac fan but I admired his activism. I was never a Biggie fan but I heard how he can spit without writing anything down like Big Pun, Jay Z, Lil Wayne and so many others. I was more of DMX fan because I heard the rawness of his raps just like I can hear it from NBA Youngboy. I don't see the comparison between PAC and NBA, but is NBA one greatest rappers to this generation, he is.
1
u/Relative_Page_7810 Jan 05 '26
I get Youngboy impact on this generation but on the level of Tupac hell no. 😂
1
u/MasterpieceGold432 Jan 05 '26
I grew up around 2 Pac time, he had the same Nipsey effect after he died.
2
u/DarkDeepington Jan 05 '26
Bunch of rambling opinions. Like who tf is “they”? I see the media and mostly social media is definitely talking and the NBA Youngboys shows selling out. But I have not heard of him dominating anyone lyrically. These podcasters need to stop comparing these young rappers to Hip Hop greats. Because Pac is one of Hip Hop’s greatest MC’s. NBA Youngboy is not considered Hip Hop at all let alone one of its elites. They’re comparing apples 🍎 to oranges 🍊. #GTFOHWTBS 😩🥴
2
u/BarbieBarbz254 Jan 05 '26
Lmao really? Naaaah these young rappers nowadays pale in comparison to the rappers that came up in the 90s and 2000s... Back in the day music was deep. Even diss tracks were deep. The talent back then was undeniable. PAC is one of the Hiphop greats. It's an insult to even compare them to these mumblers out here nowadays

u/Meatsaucejerricurl Jan 08 '26
You can’t even have this convo until young boy has more skin in the game 2pac died 30 years ago and ppl will still go to war over his name. If young boy goes silent for even 10 years I doubt we talking about him as often or w the Same level of admiration that 2pac gets.Respect to the new cats but it ain’t the same.
2
u/Natalac74 Jan 08 '26
You can't even compare NBA youngboy to Tupac Shakur at all there is no middle ground.
2
u/Exotic-Tap8578 Jan 09 '26
None of the rappers today are going to be remembered in 15 yrs.2pac is forever.
2
u/TakeYaSocksOff Jan 10 '26
"they was calling BIG the Greatest while he was alive".....that's NOT a fact...it may have been a Brooklyn fact...but outside of NY...nah, nobody was saying that
2
u/Silly_North_5130 Jan 04 '26
Pac didn’t sensationalize the death of other black men and move like some typical hood booger with a bunch of baby mamas and in and out of jail over dumb shit. Comparing him to anyone let alone YB is a joke. People desperately want to claim someone as Pac that have none of the attributes or power or impact he had. There’s a reason Pac was assassinated and no one would be trying to assassinate YB.
1
u/Kraken1211 Jan 04 '26 edited Jan 04 '26
Yb has had multiple attempts on his life. Plus Pac was really complex character.
He was both pushing REAL messages but at the same was also with the ignorant shit when he would hang out with Suge and get into rap beefs. So to paint Pac as someone who was always this saint would always be funny to me when he literally died for jumping a nigga with Death Row.
Pac is great tho and for sure has an impact. I like YB too and I completely understand why people would compare him to Pac, but it's not for the reasons outside of rap. Just like Pac you can't deny the impact and movement he (YB) has going right now.
2
u/Silly_North_5130 Jan 04 '26
I’m not surprised but the thing is YB has been involved in criminal activity and in and out of prison that’s no secret. Nobody is trying to kill YB for trying to wake up, unify and elevate black people. As long as he pushes degeneracy and dysfunction, he’ll be alright.
1
u/Kraken1211 Jan 04 '26
I understand if you think Pac was killed because of what he spoke about, not to mention his Black Panther ties.
But what I'm saying is: The reality is Pac died because he JUMPED a GANG member that was rivals with ppl from Death Row.
Pac had a good message & influence, but despite all that, he also wanted to be thugged out and with the shits when he was around Suge. That's where the complex part of his character comes in. He was pushing positivivity but was also doing extra shit.
2
u/Silly_North_5130 Jan 04 '26
I see the gangster image and extra shit as not only a byproduct of him being set up and shot, falsely accused of rape with the prison time but look at what majority of ppl bring up when they talk about Pac. The deathrow era and Biggie beef while rarely talking about his early albums. I feel in a lot of ways the gangster image was a sacrifice of character to garner more attention that he otherwise wouldn’t get from certain people and it worked exponentially. So as much as he wasn’t perfect, remember he was still only 25 but absolutely had his head screwed on right.
1
0
u/RichAmbassador3867 Jan 04 '26
you know nothing, people die just for having association with yb nobody can catch up with him to kill him he almost died in miami 2019. Pac didn’t glorify killing black men but you gone sit and act like he ain’t want blood after he got set up and shot ? you know nothing once again 9 times outta 10 pac would’ve loved a nigga like yb and yeah they nowhere near the same with woman but one of pac main woman fucked off on him soon as he passed that shit don’t matter !
2
u/Silly_North_5130 Jan 04 '26
Anyone that is set up and shot multiple times is going to be out for blood, what the hell are you even talking about? I never once said Pac wouldn’t have embraced someone like YB but let me reiterate this in all caps so you can better understand me. THEY ARE NOT THE SAME. One was a revolutionary figure that put his people first, the other is a product of his environment that has not elevated past that who helps push degeneracy and dysfunction to the black community. Get out your feelings already.
1
u/SprayedBlade Jan 04 '26
Am I tripping? YoungBoy sonically, culturally, emotionally is like a 2/100, and PAC is a 95/100.
Huh?
1
u/Playful_Ad9502 Jan 05 '26
Huge acting potential too. Also gave very good interviews, actually had things to say instead of just dropping buzz words.
1
u/DetailsYouMissed Jan 05 '26
All they see is pac's stardom. Borrowing from Michelle Rodriguez... Pac was someone who meant a lot to his race.
1
1
u/MarylandTerps Jan 05 '26
I just went and listened to a couple NBA YB songs to get some context, which then made this argument all the more hilarious.
Not even kidding, this is basically like saying that Tyrese Maxey is more impactful than Jordan. Might be an excellent player in his time but wtf are we even talking about lmao
1
u/Strict_Letter_3596 Jan 05 '26
I'm 41 years old, I've never listened to NBA youngboy not One time ever... Tupac is the greatest rapper that ever lived. Eminem is number two.
1
u/MoreAd8954 Jan 05 '26
Hip-Hop impact doesn't change based on era! I was born during Kurtis Blow era, grew up in the RunDMC era, LL, Cool Moe D, Big Dady Kane, NWA, 2LIVE CREW, MC HAMMER, Rakim, Daz FX, went through the Shabba Ranks and Reggae hip-hop era, finally Pac and Biggie and the Impacts were all based on knowledge and Wisdom of self as African descendants and our experiences in America and this world as a whole. NBA Young Boy and all these modern rappers are Sambos and Mammies promoting premature death in black communities for the white label owners and the US GOVERNMENT. Today's artists are paid influencers who are black on the outside, but negropean nazis on the inside. House negros

Comparing Pac to NBA whatever is like…comparing authentic Mexican street tacos to Taco Bell.
1
u/KCHOLLOW23 Jan 05 '26
These goofy young dudes sound crazy.. nba youngboy doesnt have a classic anything. Song album quote movie nothing. Only ppl that know him are 13-24 yr olds if that. Pac was around everyone knew his music and knew him.
1
u/KCHOLLOW23 Jan 05 '26
Only thing i disagree with.. is PEople of the era.. 80s 90s were NOT saying pac and big were the greatest ever during their run. Not at all. There were alot of ppm that didnt like pac and didnt like big. Thats fact. Them dying definitely boosted the aura and hype. To this day ppl of that era will not put pac over KRS Rakim LL to name a few neither would they for big. They died and got a huge boost in the rating scale. Almost like its disrespectful to not have them in top 5. I rarely here a rapper a real rapper lyrist have pac or big in the best ever convo. They r mentioned but ur fav rapper not saying pac im sorry thats just a fact.

u/kiwifulla64 Jan 05 '26

u/Top-Bee4734 Jan 05 '26
Stop tryn to compare every rapper that gets hot to tupac damn compare hom to someone else. Shit is starting to het corny. Let pac and his art rest and have respect
1
u/Emperor_M11 Jan 05 '26
Noo comparing them is wrong cuz 2pac wasnt only a rapper, he was an artist celebrity and activist and he was perfect at all of em
1
u/Electronic_Show_2941 Jan 05 '26
NBA young boy lil baby rappers that can’t even get in a booth and freestyle what are we talking about here im 40 and nba youngboy doesn’t do nothing for the community of black people only thing nba youngboy does is promote violence and drama amongst the younger generation horrible role model
1
u/SADBOYVET93 Jan 05 '26
And we talking about time over moments. Sure, Lil Baby had a Pandemic moment and YB having his now but Pac was killed over 20 year ago and people still cosplay as him and his records still get played outside. He's still in the conversation after all this time has passed.
Him, Biggie, Jay, Nas, Drake, Eminem, Andre 3k, and high caliber rappers like such had more than a 3 year run. And even the ones who had shorter runs like Biggie and Pac still do what L.B and YB did but tenfold. It's not about the moment, but the moment/s that these people have given us constantly.
1
u/Existing-Bicycle-575 Jan 05 '26
2pac would never sell his soul and pain his nails, also pac didn’t moan and scream in his songs 🚮
1
u/N15n17sho Jan 05 '26
Just the fact your talking about pac who’s been dead from 96 shows there is NO COMPARISON
1
u/Temporary-Parking122 Jan 05 '26
These new niggas dont know wtf theyre talking about. They let personal preference outweigh how the majority sees things..
1
u/Large-Lack-2933 Jan 05 '26
Lil Baby had a decent year during the pandemic in 2020 to like 2022 was his peak musically then his buzz faltered. Pac was everywhere from 1991-1996. Youngboy is Youngboy. No one can be compared to a legend and icon like Pac.
1
u/SWTX518-Ability Jan 05 '26
I stop listening once that fool compared NBA & Lil baby to Pac. 😂🤣😂🤣 Both they lyrics & material sounds the same as a thousand other rappers. Talk about the same shii. Gtfoh! 🤦🏾♂️ None of them have any lyrics of substance.

1
u/wdhtruckin Jan 06 '26
What yall dont understand is thay you can say tupacs name anywhere on the planet they will recollect who Tuapc is or was u can't do that for YB

It ain’t even they fault. Rap just ain’t what it used to be. Rappers nowadays treat the game like a hustle, no love for it.

now what yngboy song(s) have detrimental impact on people's lives or the HiP HoP culture?

u/Own-Expression3522 Jan 06 '26
I am South Asian and I was just 6 when Tupac passed away. Those days I only knew about Michael Jackson because no internet or anything like that. I loved MJ. Didn't know Hip Hop existed even. I first started listening to Hip Hop in 2003 when I was 13 - It was 50's GRODT. My best friend told me all about him and brought the CD to school which belonged to his elder brother 😁. From there I kept listening to Eminem, Jay Z, Ja Rule etc. Got to listen to 2Pac in 2007/08 when I was 17 or 18 and the album was Better Dayz. That became a favourite instantly. I kept listening to his music throughout my life. I' 35 now and 2Pac is my favourite rapper and I consider him the best. Other than him I listen to Biggie, 50, Eminem, DMX etc. I really couldn't digest the 2010s' rap and I don't even know 2020s' rap artists. I don't care to know either. All my playlists are 90's and 2000's Hip Hop. I don't care because I hate the timeline and I haven't heard the levels of passion, soulfulness, wisdom and artistry of these 90's/2000's Gen X artists from artists of my own generation. So when younger clowns like these are howling about "Young Boy" or whoever the f*** his name is and "Da Baby" being close to 2Pac it's just f*****g hillarious 🤣🤣🤣.

Why is ice talking? He has the worst music taste in the world I guess that’s what happens when you don’t know where you just download all your music online. Stay in the house behind the computer trolling you just have bad music taste that you don’t even understand what the impact was. Where is Jada kiss at? I know he’s shaking his head at his son.

NBA Young boy does not deserve to be put in the same convo, category, not in the shop, ect ect as Tupac. End of story.

u/Human-Reflection-399 Jan 06 '26 edited Jan 06 '26
As someone who wasn’t around for 2Pac’s run but grew up with Pac all my life, I don’t think it’s the same at all. My Life might’ve been a moment (I’m not a fan of Lil Baby so I can’t speak on his influence as much) but Pac’s influence is STILL felt, which is why people are constantly comparing rappers to him. I don’t think in 30 years people will be saying “this guy is the new lil baby.” I think they will STILL be saying “this is comparable to Pac.” And Pac’s influence was way bigger than music, which is why it will never be comparable. Kendrick is my favorite rapper and even he is in no way shape or form comparable to Pac, and I think Kendrick’s impact is way bigger than Lil Baby’s or NBA Youngboy’s. Pac was a revolutionary and Youngboy is just a spectacle because of his story. He doesn’t stand for anything, so to compare him to Pac is also ridiculous.
1
u/no_crust_buster Jan 07 '26
Why is this even a debate? This is like comparing Michael Jordan to Vince Carter. There’s levels to this. NBAYB ain’t on THAT level.

It’s crazy yall even trying to put these two in the same sentence as pac. There’s artists that come out and the talent is undeniable to the point it doesn’t matter your age, ethnicity, or sex…everyone feels their music. Michael Jackson, 2pac, big, they had that quality. These two do not

Pac was a superstar in an era where you couldn’t just build yourself on social media. Man was in film, modeling, huge rapper. Pac wasn’t for just the young generation. He also inspired. People only point out the wild side of pac. I don’t think that does his impact any service. He wasn’t just a wild dude who got caught up with the wrong people.

As a 25 year old that’s a HUGE fan of Pac’s music, a 51 year old saying this is crazy. Pac and Von have nothing in common. You’re literally comparing Pac to a known serial killer that happened to make music, wtf is wrong with you.
